Orlando Rage's Galen Hall Named XFL Coach of the Year

Hall Led Rage To Best Record in XFL's Inaugural Season

STAMFORD, CONN. (Thursday, April 19, 2001) - The XFL today named Orlando Rage head coach Galen Hall as 2001 Coach of the Year, as voted upon by the XFL head coaches and general managers.

Hall led the Rage to an 8-2 regular-season record, winning the Eastern Division regular-season championship by three games and finishing with the best mark in the XFL. Hall accomplished this feat despite the fact he lost starting QB Jeff Brohm, who would have been a serious XFL Player of the Year candidate, to a shoulder injury in week seven.

Hall built and led an extremely balanced attack, as even with the best record in the league, the Rage had just the fifth-ranked defense and third-ranked offense. Despite the fact a single player never threw for 250 yards or ran for more than 69 yards in a single game, Hall led the Rage to the second-highest point total (213) in the league.

The Altoona, Penn., native came to the XFL from NFL Europe, where he led the Rhein Fire to two league championships in the past three years (1998 and 2000). He also coached the University of Florida (1984-1989), where he was named the AP's Coach of the Year in 1984, and was the offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma for 18 years.

Despite the top mark in the XFL, the Rage were unable to overcome the loss of Brohm, as they were upset by the San Francisco Demons in the XFL semifinals. The Demons will travel to Los Angeles to face the Xtreme in "The Million Dollar Game," ä the XFL's championship game on Saturday night (8:00p.m. ET on NBC).
