XFL Confirms Team for San Jose: Spartan Stadium to Host Home Games

STAMFORD, Conn. & SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2000--The XFL, a new professional football league jointly owned and operated by World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. (NMS: WWFE) and NBC, announced today that a San Jose-based team will be one of eight scheduled to kick off the league's inaugural season on February 3, 2001.

The San Jose entry, which will soon be given a team name, will play five regular-season home games at Spartan Stadium.

``The bay area is a major U.S. market, and one that the XFL needs to be in,'' said Basil V. DeVito, Jr., President of the XFL. ``The entire San Jose area is growing, and Spartan Stadium will be a great venue for our games.''

Spartan Stadium, located on the campus of San Jose State University, seats approximately 28,000 people, giving fans a chance to experience the XFL in an intimate setting.

``As part of our arrangement, we will be making physical improvements to the stadium that will benefit everyone,'' said Anne Palmer, Spartan Stadium Director. ``It's a win-win situation for all parties.''
