I grew up in South Bend, Indiana and have been a colts fan since 1988. Talk about a punch to the gut tonight..

Sad news. Obviously Andrew Luck is doing something that is in his heart. It's a big loss for football fans. He's one of football's brightest young stars and I am going to miss watching him play. It goes without saying how tough it is on Colts fans.

I know he won't play in the XFL but what about starting his post-football career working for his dad? Would be cool to see him in some sort of role with the league.

Maybe in time, but sounds like for now, he just wants to get away from football for a while.

He can get away from the Colts, take several months off to heal, and play in the XFL with a much lower-pressure, fun situation.

He's under contract to the Colts until March 2022. Retirement doesn't void that contract so that means unless he goes back to the Colts or gets waived and goes unclaimed, he's not playing professional football again until then.
