UPDATE:

Looks like they got the guy they eventually wanted anyway. Jones probably knew he would be 2 years and done. I can’t blame him. Now, XFL or USFL, pick up the phone.

I think they wanted Jones and settled for Chang - its wayyyy late in the season to not have a HC (they fired prior coach late). This is a bandaid for Hawaii, and if they continue the soft approach they'll have more trouble.

I think they wanted Jones short term and that’s evidenced by the short 2 year contract offer. That would allow Jones to bail them out of the hole they have dug, plus allow Chang to get more coaching experience so he could take over in 2 years. As the article reads, Hawaii wanted a succession plan in place for Chang to takeover, which was also reported as another problem moving forward with Jones. But yeah, it definitely looks like there could be big challenges ahead for Hawaii.

Hawaii fired coach over his player treatment... they play in Hawaii how horrible they have it. University wants to go soft and will pay the price. That former QB will try to be their friend 1st and we all know how that ends.

Hopefully Jones comes around and gets on board with USFL.

I would have to assume it’s too late to have him coach in the USFL. Hopefully the xfl at least tries. I do wonder if he’s wanting to go to a college more than spring ball

This is turning into an even bigger mess. I’d say the AD has upset the wrong people!

Like I posted 2x above Hawaii placating players was a huge mistake, and I would not touch that job with a ten foot pole. The AD siding with cry baby players will be a big turn off to potential coaches.

But, hey, they get to enjoy Cammon Cooper, who was bypassed at Wazzu by:

Jayden De Laura (gone to Arizona)
Jarrett Guarantano (all the LOL requires a separate thread)
Victor Gabalis (the usual popular backup and even he might be gone with the Wards owning the depth chart)

Sugar Bowl here we come!
