Appreciate the link and the suggestion of team names but I don't like any of these.

"Gothams" has always been a favorite of mine but I don't think the trademark police will let that go.

I like them. Apples would be a controversial choice because very few sports teams have had fruit as their team name.

Being from New York originally, I have always liked The Nighthawks or Skyliners as a team name.

I think that Empires would be a possibility, and the New York Knights would be amazing too! Skyliners is probably the best one on that list, but they aren't that strong though.

With Gladiators being a rumored name for XFL New York, here is a possible logo design :) :

Another rumored name for XFL New York is the Emperors. The name is up to interpretation. Either a ruler, or a Emperor penguin.

I went the more fun route in this mock logo:

Here's the thing with these rumored names. There's Sentinels (STL) and Guardians (DC). So if the XFL picks one of those I'm not sure they'll pick Gladiators. It's like avoiding two fish types (Steelheads, Barracuda). Or two horse types (Stampede, Clydesdales). I think the XFL could still pick two warrior types. Maybe Guardians and Gladiators? Then STL would be left with Centaurs or Pathfinders...

Remember those names are rumored to be trademarked by the XFL. I have seen little indication that is the case. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the report is true. We'll have to see in early-middle March. Can't wait! :D

Personally, I think the XFL shouldn't entirely shun its brief history.

The fact that the name can come back is because there is some recognition to it - the unique nature of the League.

My advice would be to strip away the dated and the stuff that didn't work but keep some notes so that it retains a bit of its history.

Names like the "Rage" and Maniax" and "Extreme" are extremely dated.

But Hitmen is great, classic and tough and fits the area. The logos were simple and sharp too.

I'd advise keeping this one the way it was.
