PFT: Jake Bates continues spectacular UFL season

Post by 4th&long »

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootba ... field-goal

>>  For the players, the primary goal of playing spring football is to get signed by an NFL team. One player in the United Football League has already guaranteed that he’ll be in an NFL training camp this summer: Michigan Panthers kicker Jake Bates.Bates hit a 55-yard field goal in Sunday’s game, the fourth long field goal he’s made already in just three weeks of the UFL season. He previously made field goals of 64, 62 and 52 yards in the first two weeks of the season. Bates’ 55-yarder on Sunday would have been good from much further back; it was still several yards above the cross bar when it hit the net. There’s little doubt that Bates will be kicking in the NFL this preseason, and the only question is whether he can show enough consistency to make a roster in the regular season.  <<

Bates certainly has helped UFL get attention

PFT: UFL delivers a mixed ratings bag for Week 3

Post by 4th&long »

https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootba ... for-week-3

>>  The low point came on Saturday, when ESPN generated an audience of only 534,000 for the most exciting game of the weekend, with D.C. scoring a come-from-behind win over Arlington.

The Fox game from Saturday between Memphis and Birmingham saw an audience of 837,000.

Things got better on Sunday, with back-to-back games on ABC that competed with the final round of the Masters. <<

Despite ratings being virtual on avg the same from wk 2 (845k) & wk 3 (842k) - the analysis from MFer is different.  Clearly Sat did worse than Sunday with ESPN Underperforming and Fox slightly underperforming - but net-net not bad.

Keep in mind of the 25 (28-3 overlap regional) games remaining ESPN only has 5 while ESPN2/FS1 has 2. ABC has 6 and Fox 12. SO the remaining games are weighted more broadcast.

Golf is boring as hell to watch on TV, so of course the UFL did decent numbers against the Masters.

Well sure, but the Masters still drew nearly ten million viewers. It's harder to compete against that than say an NHL playoff game that draws 1.2 million or NBA playoff that gets a little over 4 million.

That and the Masters still drew five and a half million in 2020 when it was up against the first game of an NFL doubleheader on FOX. Actually had it happened as scheduled they might have done closer to 15 mil had Tiger been anywhere near contention (and thus becoming the first to repeat twice). The XFL might not have been so lucky.

Here you also had LIV vs PGA (while it fizzled they still had two of the eight to finish under par--three if Tyrrell Hatton hadn't bombed 17 and 18) plus Verne Lundquist's sendoff.

And you posted this...............................why? To show Florio's a no-context tool that's really better suited for MSNBC? (as I said, compare it to the two Saturday matinees StL had last year, it's a 10% drop, hardly the disaster he's claiming)

Everybody knows that, it's why he got rid of the comments section last year.

I like to see what PFT has on UFL - its still a widely viewed site by FB fans, ie huge

Using one thread instead of separate ones - I think that's allowed.  Come on man!

Post by 4th&long »

>>Puka Nacua’s brother Kai Nacua emerges as a UFL defensive player of the year candidate

Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua was a rookie of the year candidate last season, but he’s not the only member of his family who’s getting some awards recognition.

Nacua’s older brother Kai Nacua has been named as a midseason defensive player of the year candidate in the UFL.Kai Nacua is a safety for the Michigan Panthers who is leading the UFL in interceptions this season. <<
