An article by Mike Mitchell: How far outside the box is the XFL willing to go?

It may be Vince McMahon who is funding 500 million dollars for the new XFL, but make no mistake, this is Oliver Luck’s league. How innovative will he take the 2020 version of the XFL?

A very good read. We will see how far they will go, I know they are testing a lot of ideas but we will see which ones make that final cut. That's going to be key and how good these ideas are.

The other thing is how they will find players because clearly the biggest thing is having good football. The mistake with the 01 XFL was not enough time for a team to work together as a team before hitting the games that counted. That's the other thing they better watch is how fast the Head Coach/GM get there team together and practice enough so when games time counts we see a good game. First impression is going to be key.

The AAF went 81% former NFL players, which is lot. While to a degree that helps sell tickets if fans are familer so to speak with names. The XFL could do well if most of there roster is those undrafted because they went to a school that wasn't as known so may not gotten the scouts eyes. Maybe the NFL didn't bring them in because they thought he was to small. There is a lot of smaller school they players get over looked because that school may not had the center stage.

Getting former NFL players may help because every year there going to be the older unsigned guys that where replaced by the lastest crop of draft picks. The XFL needs to up on the undrafted class before the AAF does if they have hope getting some decent talent from it at that point.

The NFL Draft, The undrafted players, NFL camps and the preseason games are going to be more interesting to follow because of The XFL factor.

The list of players who don’t get drafted in Late April, will make for some good conversation for the league. Then there’s the list of the undrafted that do not sign nfl deals or get camp invites. These will all be players on the XFL’s radar. Not household names to everyone but names that Doug Whaley and Optimum Scouting have scouted extensively.

The preseason games are going to be more interesting for both spring leagues. Those 4th quarters in the preseason may be where some of the XFL’s talent base comes from when NFL cut down day happens.

I just finished the episode of Spring Forward, the Spring League's podcast, with Doug Whaley. At the end, Whaley makes a reference to letting fans be involved in the play calling. Coupled with Luck's reference to letting the fans call a play from a few months back, I think it's time to start to worry that the XFL is going to implement YCF technology in some capacity.

I am not sure that it's a good idea for fans to call plays.

Oh, it's a terrible idea. I think letting the fans know the play ahead of time could be cool -- like watching poker and knowing the cards the players have. Maybe even enabling betting on each play. But anything further would probably be a dealbreaker for me.

Except for Stoops, Trestman, Zorn and Hamilton called plays in the NFL and I don't think all three of them would give up play calling to the fans.

There's always raiding Arena Football players...... there's not too many left though.
