Ebersol is planning his own league to start next year to beat the XFL. Already planning games on CBS and CBS Sports Network and their app.

Could this be the reason for XFL silence?

Looks like they will have no kick offs or XP but keep punting and FG. Onside kick substitute (start at own 35 with 4th and 10) I have seen suggested for the NFL had they stopped using kick offs.

8 teams with regional draft in non NFL cities.

It would be interesting to know the actual thought process time lines for both leagues. It sounds like the AAF has been planning for 1.5 years (maybe 3yrs) and do have a lot of things in place. If true, maybe that's why Vince announced so early with not much ready to go although Vince did start the trademark process in Dec of '17 while the AAF didn't start until Feb of '18. Wow...lots of questions.
