CBS Sports's Dennis Dodd: Buzz is Vipers are relocating

Post by GregParks »

Now, this could mean simply locating within Vegas, though that's rarely what is meant when the term "relocating" is used. Either way, we're three months removed from the end of the season. A decision, one way or the other, should've been made by now.

ugh.

Tempe seems like equally as bad of an idea as Vegas. Hotshots were among the least attended team in the Alliance, we all know the Coyotes troubles and you're up against spring training. If there's any spot in Arizona to try, I'd rather try Tucson. There seems to be more grassroots support to bring a pro football team there.

And Nashville? The best sized stadium there, Vanderbilt, is being rebuilt. Plus the South is largely USFL turf; do they really want a tit-for-tat reply of the Gamblers taking up shop in Houston, for example? Furthermore, you're basically putting Seattle out on an island with that kind of relocation.

That said, the San Diego showcase and renewed Wildcats trademark seem to point toward trying again in California.

Nashville is the home of Nissan Stadium, so they may want that stadium.

Aren't they talking about replacing that one, too?

That hasn't broken ground yet.

...or Vanderbilt's stadium that is currently undergoing rennovations
...or Geodis Park where Nashville SC plays and was built just a couple of years ago.

I said in another relocate thread Phoenix was going to be on the short list.

Phoenix is the 11th largest TV market. A full %pt higher than LV. Its in the same time / geo zone and its in a low cost state to operate (for now).

Its all about TV viewership and costs, a little more about attendance for XFL than USFL but its TV and cost 1st.

The Comeback Period doesn't think Phoenix is a good idea because it failed in the AAF:

And San Antonio was supposed to draw St. Louis-like numbers because of how well they did in the AAF. I wouldn't put much stock into what they did four years ago for like three home games being an indication of how they can perform as a market in 2024.
