Re: PGA and LIV to merge
Now that Saudi Arabia basically owns golf, some think it's only a matter of time before they own a team in each of the Big 5 (NFL, NBA, MLS, MLB and NHL).

The USFL was going to die with or without Trump.johnnyangryfuzzball wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:10 pm Wow.
This is the equivalent of having the USFL actually pull off its merger with the NFL like it tried in the 1980s.
Now, if only they'd had Saudi oil backing instead of being at the whims of a certain future President...

Add to that, Eddie Einhorn was more behind the move and did the legwork (he was ChiSox part-owner at the time and wanted a second tenant at Comiskey)--even though the preceding Blitz issues were too great for him to get a team running. Trump just did what he does, acquire rights so to speak.XFL Crusader wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 12:39 pmThe USFL was going to die with or without Trump.johnnyangryfuzzball wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 7:10 pm Wow.

The fact the league lost $200 mil in today's dollars without him in the first year should have put an end to that.

And neither one had House of Saud sovereign funding—which is why LIV won and the USFL lost.MGB01 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 1:15 pmAdd to that, Eddie Einhorn was more behind the move and did the legwork (he was ChiSox part-owner at the time and wanted a second tenant at Comiskey)--even though the preceding Blitz issues were too great for him to get a team running. As long as that 30 for 30, Pearlman's book, and cheap political pot-shots exist, it won't.MGB01 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 1:15 pmAdd to that, Eddie Einhorn was more behind the move and did the legwork (he was ChiSox part-owner at the time and wanted a second tenant at Comiskey)--even though the preceding Blitz issues were too great for him to get a team running. Sure it won't, which is why I said should. See propaganda and narrative work when it's the "good guys" pushing it, or in Pearlman's case, the "informed" sect--full disclosure I actually gave him that benefit a few years back, and then he totally jumped on the "well the USFL never really competed with the NFL" bandwagon, which is true if he was talking about the original Dixon plan but he actually went beyond that and kept with it. Time to jump off.XFL Crusader wrote: ↑Fri Jun 09, 2023 10:31 amAs long as that 30 for 30, Pearlman's book, and cheap political pot-shots exist, it won't.MGB01 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 1:15 pmAdd to that, Eddie Einhorn was more behind the move and did the legwork (he was ChiSox part-owner at the time and wanted a second tenant at Comiskey)--even though the preceding Blitz issues were too great for him to get a team running.
