I would think that ESPN having quite a few USFL mentions (mostly with LP/JT) as the competition this time around, going back to the fire ridiculousness last year (backhandedly, their constant harping on it like the Broncos were playing that Sunday probably reminded a few people there was an actual game on) deserves some reciprocal in kind.

It is funny that the roles have flipped. NBC being a main party to/co-owner of XFL1.0 and ESPN and ABC (who remember weren't related for the first two seasons) with the USFL. So it would be kind of hard to use original footage, especially if were from games broadcast by either, without an acknowledgement

As for FOX, I'm sure somebody remembers Moose bragging up the double forward pass up as a USFL innovation when Kyler Murray tried it (raises hand) was like 'Hold up, how was it in XFL '20 and '23 then?' at the very least.

"And if it ever becomes incredibly profitable, that’s when the NFL shows up and buys the whole thing."

Do you realize how much trouble the NFL would get into if it tried to do that?

The only time the NFL gets involved in these leagues is if the upstarts are a threat to the profits. That hasn't realistically happened since the 1970s at the latest.

PFT on XFL cuts

Post by 4th&long »

The news is making the rounds...

> The third installment of the XFL is planning something the first two installments didn’t have: A second season.

But to stay in business, the XFL is needing to cut costs and cut jobs. The league has fired some marketing employees and is shifting other employees to seasonal work, meaning they’re out of their jobs now but may be back next year.<<

Gee, I must have tripped over the criteria for "making the rounds" (it's lying on the floor). One place (among non-XFL sites), and it's Pro Florio Talk. Hits you like an earthquake, don't it?

He is sad because he has come to the realization that if Tom Brady is approved to be a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, he can no longer do his "any time now he's going to come back and play for the Miami Dolphins" bit because he says that it takes a unanimous vote of all 32 owners to allow Tom Brady to come back and play for the Raiders while being an owner and he says it won't happen.

PFT shows XFL some major Love no more?

Post by 4th&long »

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... n-in-2023/

>> While there’s no panic yet from new ownership that features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the third iteration of the league founded by Vince McMahon in 2001 lost $60 million in 2023, according to Jabari Young of Forbes.com.

Above all else, it remains to be seen whether either the XFL or the NFL can make enough money over the long haul to keep going.<<

Florio just can't type USFL so he typos like a dope LOL
