NFL Alumni Academy Roster for Session 1

Post by GregParks »

For anyone who wants to peruse the list, here is the NFL Alumni Academy roster for session 1 (Oct. 3 - Oct. 21). Remember that anyone who "graduates" from the Academy and does not ink an NFL deal by the end of the season has an opt-in to an XFL contract.

So um....who are the Running Backs, Wide Receivers and Tight Ends going to catch passes from? Because there are no QBs on that list and none of the coaches are ex QBs.

And all the 5-10 guys are listed as 5-1, so unless they're trying to make some kind of history...............

It does seem strange and yet it's by design: In an NFL Alumni Academy call with agents set up by ITL, they noted QBs would not be brought in. Why, I'm not sure. Maybe the XFL wanted to grab them to work with Jordan Palmer, but without a specific QB coach on staff, perhaps they'll bring in some local QBs to throw to the skill position players.

There aren't any QBs listed on the page but Davis Cheek is clearly visible in the 4th photo in this post on their Twitter in a red jersey

So they have at least one QB there

Looks like Hawaii's Cole McDonald is there too, according to this article. They are the only two mentioned.

Some changes here from the original list. The roster has been updated to include the two QBs ("Cheek Davis"). The one addition that stands out to me is former 2nd round draft pick LB Kamalei Correa.

The roster has been updated to add session two players. Session two runs from 10/24 - 11/11. It looks like the roster page has simply added session two players to the list of session one players. Session two QBs appear to be Mike Glass (Eastern MIchigan) and Alejandro Bennifield (UT-Chattanooga, former IFL MVP).

Both from the Massachusetts Pirates, a bit of a controversial team in the IFL.

The United Bowl champs (technically the last one, since 2022 was renamed the IFL National Championship😂😂😂😂😂) had a pretty good number of XFL2.0 players--Justin Stockton, Marquis Young, Dontez Byrd, Jordan McCray, Marquis Floyd, Harlan Miller. They also had Martavis Bryant in their opener.

It was pretty LOL though that the IFL went out of their way to decline Jacksonville for "not being in their geographical footprint" and then take Massachusetts all these years later, and the only two "gateway" teams that paired up with them in the Eastern time zone either only made it through a handful of games (Louisville) or might never end up playing (Columbus, who's been pushed back three times). So that's more on the league.
