MLFB missed the boat, and the boat ins sinking

Post by 4th&long »

I posted this on another MLFB thread but it's worthy of its discussion:

MLFB missed the boat on what niche to fill. With TSL gone they could have been the ultra low cost July/early Aug 4+1 week training league. Call it AAF (Academy of American Football) take their IP cheap, play 7/10-8/7 with small rosters like TSL, no pay and with scouts from USFL/CFL/XFL etc... TV needs something to put on this month and instead of looking like a cheap shot try of USFL / XFL, market it as a chance to get on a team. They even could have teamed up with XFL to try and test rules etc.... Virtual studio with games in all one location or two close cities.
Either that or during NFL season like TSL 2020.
Missed opportunity IMO. But these guys are fools anyway.

When it was leaked on accident by a website post from one of the four cities (via their local news site) that games would be broadcast on Amazon Prime (which was then erased) their fans were excited, believing it was massive news.

Like I said they just missed their opportunity. Perhaps some one else will look at doing an TSL like Academy

Hey but they have rosters! ;)

Got a good number of XFL 2020s in there: Nick Holley, Nick James, Dwayne Wallace, Roman Tatum, and a few more. Daishawn Dixon, who some actually had as a preseason all-USFL pick (um, juuuuuust a bit outside), is also playing.

Former four-star DeMario McCall is easily the highest-profile name. Much like Johnnie Dixon, he got swamped by the annual three-deep of NFL talent, so much so that Ryan Day ended up switching him to cornerback last year. He was at OSU long enough that he and Joe Burrow were teammates.

the writing was kind of on the wall when they had yet to announce a broadcasting deal with two weeks to go before the season.

They're highlighting a longtime Glanville assistant that left a HS gig in Portland to go work with him, now the league's just going to up and go AAF?

So it's been what, 7 1/2 years since the initial announcement (Dec 2014) and it still might not be any closer to having even a showcase season than when they got a $20M line of credit and tried to push that as serious gamechanger?

Looking like MLFB is dead, lots of players posting they’re being told to go home and are told to sleep at the stadium

This is the kinda thing the UFPA was created to protect players from (or help them with); let’s see how, or if, they get involved.
