A team in Hawaii can cause some problems. There's a reason they don't even have minor league sports there.

While I wasn't really impressed with The Rock's non-answer, I was quite impressed with the amount of media coverage. That's a ton of cameras and microphones for an open tryout.

That was probably just a "humor them" answer, Dwayne knows damn well there's not gonna be a Hawaii team anytime soon. Where would they play? The new Aloha Stadium is at least two years out. So I don't really fault him for giving a diplomatic non-answer--what should he do, start going off on them like they were Michael Cole or Jonathan Coachman?

A 'NICE SHIRT 25 CENTS!' (43 today) might sound good to us but when you're building, not so much.

That was handled about as well as I could imagine. It's easy for a league to start getting carried away with expansion (ahem, MLS). But Johnson was realistic and diplomatic. That's a good sign of responsible ownership.

As a single entity, the XFL doesn't really have the benefits to expansion that a traditional league would have. Nobody's coming in to buy an expansion franchise or pay millions for the privilege.

When it comes time to sell franchises, can’t you see the Rock working the room, a la his character in “Ballers.” I can.

Plus seemingly everyone that has a new/upcoming mid-size stadium wants to throw it around: Birmingham, San Diego, now Honolulu.

If they are working in real time then yes. But I have friends who live there who think it's more realistic that the new Aloha Stadium is 4 to 5 years out instead of two.

I don't think Hawaii has much to offer the league from a traditional perspective, but if the league does achieve viability, they do start selling franchises, and Johnson is in a position to take a franchise for himself, I could see him wanting to own XFL Honolulu. But as he says, a lot has to happen before that. That's probably a 5+ year timeline anyway, so no worries on a delayed Aloha Stadium.
