It's funny that he's asking everyone on Twitter the right question: how much is ESPN paying the XFL? But when someone asked him how much NBC is paying FOX for the USFL rights, he is clearly clueless.
FOX Sports owns the rights so it’s difficult to say exactly. A bad estimate would be to put a total amount they are using to fund the league. Around 50 million.

It's a little hard to even follow what he's saying, but it sounds like he's saying that a bad estimate for the value of the USFL broadcast rights is the amount FOX is putting up to fund the league, which is $50M.

That's not just a bad estimate, it's such completely twisted, circular logic that it should entirely discredit this guy as a source of insight. Maybe he's a fine high school OC, but I don't think he has anything to offer as a television industry analyst.

He can't say it or his Bro in trouble. It sound like it is costing the league $50mm to run the league. That's pretty good. XFL expenses are likely going to be substantially higher.

Well, considering that the wording of the press release stated that ESPN+ was only going to be used for supplemental content and that all the games would be on broadcast or cable (unlike the USFL, ahem)... Donnie's lying through his teeth.

I actually hadn't parsed that out, but now that I read it again, I agree. The ESPN press release reads "XFL matchups will be featured on a combination of ABC, ESPN networks and FX", and ESPN's definition of the ESPN networks does not seem to include ESPN+.

It also says this in the press release:

>> Specific details on scheduling dates, times and platforms will be determined and announced on a later date.<<

So we shall see.

Agreed. This is the way I understood it when I read the release last night. This whole Donnie Woods angle got way too much attention IMO. Of course, if his goal was to create confusion and doubt, I would say mission accomplished.

The #XFL media rights deal isn’t necessarily a positive for the league. It’s becoming apparent that the deal is a production deal. XFL may get money out of ad sales splits once the network recoups costs. Still working on getting more information but it’s not all gloss.

Now the question is how, and how much is financing this XFL venture.

And Seth clarifies himself that it's not necessarily a negative either. Of course you know who jumps in, it's essentially "JUST........STOP" at this rate. Even our old buddy from the UFLA days Nation Hahn is having enough of him.

He may not be in an official capacity, but this is getting back on the USFL at some point, they're lucky if Rock doesn't just snap back 'And how those ratings coming against my cousins, chief?'

The point is its not a paying deal, so someone has to be digging deep to pay the XFL bills. That's something the XFL was looking to avoid from the get go.

We don't know that.
