June Jones to Hawaii

Post by herns »

According to the athletic June Jones is close to signing with Hawaii, so it’s safe to say we won’t see him in spring football come 2023. I am excited to see what he’s describing as the new reinvented modernized run n shoot that he wants to run

The fact that he was openly campaigning for the job tells you he probably didn't have any kind of a deal/wasn't close to a deal to return to the XFL. Then again even if he had, an FBS college head coaching position is probably more desirable than an XFL head coaching position at this point, even if Jones spoke highly of his time here.

And if the head coach of the only undefeated team in the XFL in 2020 DIDN'T have a deal in place with the new league, and he DID want to coach in Houston again as he stated in interviews that he was willing to do, that should be a signal that the league may be starting all over with no head coach carryover.

I hope that’s not the case. I’d love to see Jonathan Hayes and Winston moss get chances in one of these leagues.

It appears June Jones isn’t off the board after all! Maybe the XFL made a last minute offer! :D

All the latest sports news from Hawaii’s sports station

Terms of UH’s offer, which Jones rejected, were not disclosed. Money was not a factor in the decision, with the biggest holdup being terms of the arrangement. <<

At 69 does he want to be sitting in a plane back and forth to Hawaii in a CFB season? Likely not. Also lets look at how the prior coach got canned, I'm sure an old school guy like Jones doesn't want to deal with that hanging over his head and wanted language in his contract to avoid a similar scenario.

A USFL or XFL season is alot less wear and tear, I could see him sign in either league.

So I would like to comment and give my thoughts on the Football Head Coaching job..I am still interested in this job for the people of Hawaii but the job offered to me today there is no way I could accept with the conditions offered me …No coach in their right mind would accept!

What'd they do, offer him 15 bucks an hour?

It sounds like they were only offering him a 2 year contract and they were dictating to him who could or couldn’t be on his staff.

They "fired" the previous guy for being too tough on players - I would not touch that job with a ten-foot pole. No way you want to be surrounded by people eyeing you all day to say - yeah he's a meanie too. Hawaii too soft - I'd avoid that if I could and at 69 he can.

Hawaii should just drop football at this point. Mountain West wouldn't mind, they'd just snag New Mexico State so they can claim the Rio Grande Rivalry for themselves and move Boise State to the West in football, plus have 12 in both sports.
