Among football fans in Ontario, half only watch the NFL compared to less than one-fifth who exclusively watch the CFL.

Nearly half of 18-44-year-old football fans watch the NFL but do not follow the CFL and only one-fifth are CFL-only fans.

This is why I still believe an NFL oriented minor league would draw better than "major league" Canadian style football. Which is also why the networks pay more for the NFL television rights in Canada than the CFL. The youth demo is more important than overall viewers.
Its good data, but may be incomplete. Bottomline MSLE wants an NFL or at least Alt-FB league team that has more value than the CFL argos. But don't bet on it yet.

CFL ratings in Canada are strong for the country size, more demo data needed though.

Sounds like the Argos asked their starting quarterback to go to the Raptors game, which violated COVID protocols, and now he's going to miss the semifinal game? I think both Occam's and certainly Hanlon's Razor would suggest that this was just a boneheaded decision by someone. But if you're a conspiracy theorist, that would be an impressive piece of sabotage.

Eastern Conference final looks awesome on TV. I assume most of the crowd is TiCats fans though.

Playoff ratings down from 2019 with 60% of the viewing audience 55+. Not bad overall numbers, but these demos are very concerning.

Yeah - that's not great. Maybe Canadians are just going out after all the overload covid fear up there?

With Canadian winters more people would be indoors as opposed to outdoors. The SNF borefest between Buffalo and New England notched nearly identical ratings to the Eastern Final involving Canada's #1 market, Toronto.

On another note, the CFL is exploring going 4 downs next year. I'm guessing MLSE is behind this. In order of operations I'd conclude MLSE game plan is this.
1. Get CFL to play 4 down football
2. If they can't convince the CFL and/or it doesn't positively affect ratings, they bolt to the XFL/USFL.
3. Sell the team
4. Fold em.

Interesting to see if its just a bargaining tool among the owners or if anything real comes about, certainly rev sharing. But they now have to look at the impact of 1 or 2 new U.S. spring leagues

I've got a better idea for them. I had it when the CFL/XFL talks were ongoing and I was trying to figure out a rules compromise that would give younger Canadians more excitement while technically preserving 3 downs.

Get rid of punts.

Most 1st round picks of CFL teams last year were punters. That's ridiculous.

Instead, on 3rd down any passed ball is live after 15 yards. Meaning, if the receiver drops the pass or it falls to the ground, the defenders can pick it up. Since most times the offense was punting on 3rd down anyway, this gives it an incentive to throw a deep pass downfield, replacing the function of a punt but with an enhanced chance of recovery.

I think that was just in the global draft, where by the far the best value was Australian punters.
