More bad coaching, on the college level: Jake Dickert, with an opt-out decimated offense that really was good for about five plays and outside it nothing, runs up the middle on 4th and 1 in minus territory with around nine minutes left down seven, and you guessed it, failed. In his sort-of defense the spot was in question, as Nakia Watson might have landed down shoulder-first with the ball short of the 34 but you'd really have to get in to see that, whereas the line judge decided right away that happened. End result, Wazzu loses by a field goal in a game where the supposedly more impressive CMU drove all of 39 yards to get 18 of their 24 points and the Pac 12 is 0-4 in bowls with losses to the MAC and MWC.

Where it's XFL/USFL-related is I hope this doesn't come back on the two Jones' assistants, especially Dennis McKnight, coaching without both tackles.

Catching up on what I missed while I was away...LB Tegray Scales was signed by Pitt off of Cincy's practice squad and played last night.

K Matt McCrane was signed to Philly's practice squad, then released.

QB Jordan Ta'amu was signed to Carolina's practice squad.

The good news: Tyree Jackson caught his first pass tonight, for a touchdown.

The bad news: He suffered a non-contact knee injury on special teams late in the game. Silver lining is preliminary reports say it may not be an ACL.

Today, CB Saivion Smith was signed to Detroit's practice squad, and K Matt McCrane was signed back to Philly's PS as well. The final tally heading into the last week of regular-season games:

Active Roster
QB PJ Walker, Panthers
S Kenny Robinson, Panthers
TE Donald Parham, Chargers (I.R.)
OT Storm Norton, Chargers
CB Elijah Campbell, Dolphins (I.R.)
P Hunter Niswander, Cowboys (I.R.)
LS Nick Moore, Ravens
LS Christian Kuntz, Steelers
G Michael Dunn, Browns
QB Taylor Heinicke, Washington
TE Tyree Jackson, Eagles
LS Scott Daly, Lions
RB Godwin Igwebuike, Lions
DE Bunmi Rotimi, Washington
C Jon Toth, Washington

DT Khalil McKenzie, Ravens
OT Willie Beavers, Falcons
LB Edmond Robinson, Seahawks
TE Colin Thompson, Panthers

Last year, there were 14 former XFL players on active NFL rosters heading into the last week of the season; this year, there are 15 (not counting those on IR). There were 19 former XFL players on NFL practice squads at this time; this year, there are 10.
