In the XFL's statement on breaking off talks with the CFL, they kind of threw in there what we all figured by this point: They're planning now for a 2023 kickoff. Here's their statement, per @CallMeNokes https://twitter.com/CallMeNokes/status/ ... 1957242880:
"While our discussions with the CFL did not ultimately lead to a collaboration, the effort reinforced our belief and commitment in developing the XFL for international spring football. We look forward to seeing everyone for kickoff in spring of 2023."

XFL - CFL plans DOA
XFL - CFL plans DOA
As common sense would say - NO SH#T - you can't combine two disparate entities. There was never any reason other than to BUY TIME. CFL needed a distraction and the PR the Rock provided. among other things I brought up.
Should have bubble played or delayed 2021 until late April and they now have 3 years without any games - out of sight out of mind. Just work with the USFL if anything.

Probably reading too much into it, but interesting that they used the phrase "international spring football" in there. Makes you wonder if the calendar was ultimately the breaking point, and either the XFL was unwilling to move out of February/March or the CFL unwilling to move out of September/October. Also makes you wonder if the XFL still has their sights set on something outside the US borders.

I noticed the word international as well. Perhaps the owners of the Argos, Alouettes, and possibly B.C. Lions are still open to the idea of the XFL. It was going to be hard to convince Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Saskatchewan to give up the CFL. At least we now know the CXFL is dead and buried and the XFL can work towards a successful 2023 season.

How can they work toward a successful 2023 season when they can't even work toward a 2022 season? The pandemic restrictions are over. There's no excuse now. Get back on the ----ing field already!laxtreme56 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:14 pm I noticed the word international as well. Perhaps the owners of the Argos, Alouettes, and possibly B.C. The Pandemic was over when the Vaccine was announce 6 days after the election. Or the writing on the wall was and the clock was ticking. Come on - DUH. On 10/1/2020 when they announced - No 2021. That was it. This just proves it. There was NO REASON to not have a 2022 season even if in talks with CFL, let alone a 2021. You can't MERGE a league that isnt playing. You can launch a new league or relaunch but not merge.johnnyangryfuzzball wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 3:32 pmHow can they work toward a successful 2023 season when they can't even work toward a 2022 season? Clearly DG/RBC/Rk bought in thinking they'd have people knocking on door with $$ in hand. NOPE. and then they tried (to sucker?) the CFL or buy time... NADA, and now its 2023 with DIH? In over heads and and I expect in 2022 they will close shop or sell names to USFL.

Starting a whole league in less than a years time is suicide, just ask the AAF or ask Brian Woods come next March. Now with 18+ months they can plan to sell 5k season tickets per market, hire a competent front office staff and marketing team, get a streaming deal and equipment supplier, and also keep in touch with the owners of Toronto and Montreal when they abandon the CFL in 2-3 years.johnnyangryfuzzball wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 3:32 pmHow can they work toward a successful 2023 season when they can't even work toward a 2022 season? Re: XFL officially delays start until 2023
The AAF failed because it lacked Funding. They lied about that all the way. USFL ? We don;t know yet. Have they been working behind the scenes? Is this a TV focused league? What cities? Who knows. But if they have funding, and clearly FOX is involved and they have a TV contract. How much is FOX investing TBD, but they did 2 seasons of TSL. They are committed.laxtreme56 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 7:59 pmStarting a whole league in less than a years time is suicide, just ask the AAF or ask Brian Woods come next March. Let's just hope they don't go into protracted talks with the USFL that ultimately fail, then we can all wait for a focused restart in 2024...or 2025... or....
