Dany Garcia: "We are months from hitting the field..."

Post by GregParks »

So EOnline did a profile of Dany Garcia, and in an e-mail to them, she wrote briefly about the XFL. The entire article can be found here: https://www.eonline.com/news/1273012/pr ... ggling-act

Here is the full relevant quote:

"The entire experience has been life-changing for me. The enormity of relaunching this league combined with the complex strategy and partnership executions we are cultivating for the benefit of our athletes and audiences is a 24/7 impacting event. While it is no small task and we are months from hitting the field, it's humbling to see that following my passions has had such a positive impact in other people's lives. It gives me joy to hear that this acquisition inspired others to take a leap in their own careers."

On the surface, not much new here. I felt compelled to post it because so rarely do we hear from Garcia et al these days that even saying nothing is newsworthy. But the other bit was saying the XFL is "months from hitting the field." For those holding out hope of a 2022 season, I guess that gives a lifeline. She could've said "years" or not used any method of time to describe it. I suppose a 2023 kickoff, technically is "months" away, though. Just a lot more months :)

I really don't buy the viability of a 2022 season at this point, especially with CFL talks still in full swing with no end in sight. But while a spring 2022 season is in serious doubt, if the possibility of playing out of spring (summer-early fall) is true (usually discussed in relation to a full CFL merger, which we're hearing less and less speculation about), that gives a little more hope to a 2022 season, if later in 2022.

From Mike M and others on XFLnewshub and the_markcast - it's 2023 despite this potentially misleading comment, per twitter , podcasts and radio shows

It's funny how she says it clearly meaning to imply that they are a long way away, but if taken literally, it would actually mean the opposite.

Part of what gets me about it is the humor in it: For someone as media savvy as Garcia, whose responses are always perfectly curated, you'd think she'd be a little bit more careful about how she's wording things (in an e-mail no less! Where you have plenty of time to check and double-check your responses!) so those kind of misinterpretations aren't made.

This definitely wasn't her most polished statement. What does it mean to cultivate a partnership execution?

Maybe they were both big fans of the Warrior (who went by Rock in his Bladerunner days) and consider it an early career disappointment that he was long gone by the time Rocky showed up.

"In my final meeting with the Gods I visualize the power of destrucity in the seventh Warrior's commandment! Take the two pilots and shove them into a nosedive, where you will learn the power of the warriors past floating through the veins........to parts......UNKNOWWWWWWWWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

XFLNH has been wrong before (hence why they poached Mitchell from here)... and nothing in the_markcast or his angry, pushy all-caps tweet tells me he has any inside information. Just another bloke on the Internet thinking the loudest opinion is the right one.

Perhaps they can play a mini season of 6 games using a hybrid of XFL-CFL rules before the merger/partnership happens. With Redbirds new acquire I'm sure the Television and streaming talk will start heating up now.

The problem is that it's too late to secure a TV contract for this season at this point, unless they're going to buy the airtime (BAD IDEA). Remember that XFL 2.0 lined up and announced their TV deal in May 2019, which is when the TV networks unveil their schedules. The networks released their scheds four weeks ago and the time slots are already taken.

Now, they could go back to Fox and ask for them to honor the existing contract (though it looks like ESPN/ABC won't) but there would have to be some proof that the league is aggressively re-establishing its operations.
