The Riders can keep the 150 yard field, the Guardians can keep the 120 yard field, and maybe the Battlehawks decide that they can get to 130 yards safely, and the Alouettes determine that they need to move to 140 to stop shaving off the corners of the end zone. Or whatever. Establish minimums and maximums and then let everyone fit the field to their stadium.
They tried that, unintentionally, during the South Division experiments of the 1990s. What ended up happening was that the teams that had full-size fields like Baltimore and Sacramento/San Antonio ended up having play that was very much what the CFL was known for being. But the teams that were shoehorned onto smaller fields, Memphis in particular, ended up having all their home games turned into defensive slogs.

You can talk about football being an 11-on-11 game, but really, it's 11-on-13: the sidelines never miss a tackle. Give offenses less room to move and scoring goes down; that's why the CFL can get away with three downs and still be high-scoring.

Having different-sized fields changes the nature of the game, particularly in gridiron-style football, probably a little too much for me to be comfortable doing that.

I think it's a very interesting question overall. The CFL and XFL seemingly have totally opposite business models. The XFL relies on the big markets, and the CFL's biggest markets in Toronto and BC are struggling. On the other hand, the CFL's smaller markets like Hamilton, Saskatchewan, and such would be way too small for the kind of audience the XFL wants.

I said this in other threads and OP of this thread ie them likely getting Axed.

This whole thing is so whacky who knows what they are really up to on either side.

You think they will axe the third most popular sports franchise in Canada and the CFL's biggest ratings draw? Interesting.

I don't see them axing the Hamilton Tiger Cats or Saskatchewan Roughriders. Those two teams are like the Green Bay Packers.

The XFL is looking for Big TV money and that means Big TV markets. That's my point.

Not sure which you are speaking of but look here. Do you think TV gives a rats ass about a Metro area of 250k? Vs 6.5 million?

I'm speaking of Saskatchewan.

TSN cares. They are the biggest rating in the CFL. They are also the most successful franchise.

They aren't going anywhere.

This is good info, thank you.

Here is some XFL ratings:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_XFL_season

Getting back to the big question - based on the ratings in Canada, what is the benefit to the XFL?

XFL averaged 1.9million over 20 games.

This is one weird courtship...
