XFL - One year after kick off... and waiting

Post by 4th&long »

>> Today, when XFLBoard.com asked league officials for an update on XFL 3.0’s progress, they could not offer anything as an official announcement. However, the tone was that of excitement, and the hint was there would be official news in the coming weeks.

Just imagine. If it wasn’t for the unfortunate worldwide dilemma called COVID-19, instead of sitting here wondering what’s next, we would be eagerly getting ready for the kickoff of a second season of XFL football. <<

Clocks ticking... 2 years ago it was that needed 2 years to launch properly. Now its silent running and less than a year out. And no news just a warm feeling... and now with NFL over we go into the desert time between seasons.

MLB is starting on time. Many states allowing some fans even indoor. The Hybrid season would have worked this season. 2022 is a no brainer. Every day w/o news is not helping.

The XFL spent the wide majority of that first year working on rules and stadium agreements from scratch...a lot of that won't be as from scratch this time around for the stadiums and the team branding and rules are set. I also wouldn't be surprised if they have been doing a lot and are just keeping it close to the chest.

Everything is hinging on a broadcast deal. (Duh!) We probably won't see anything advance until that is inked and then I suspect, things will be flying. Once the deal is done many of the items already mentioned will fall into place or will be immediately acted upon. It all hinges on TV revenue as we all know. Until there is a deal, not much will happen. I just hope that the telecasts are on major stations not some limited subscription service or backwater regional badmitton network.

If it all hinges on TV revenue then its no different from any other wannabe Winter/Spring/Summer league, ie we have the ideas you provide the money. People who provide money usually want to own what they invest in, unless its established with existing value.

The television network wouldn't be "investing" in the XFL, they'd be buying the rights to broadcast the content so that they can either sell commercials to advertisers or Peacock subscriptions or whatever to consumers.

It does all hinge on broadcast revenue and it isn't materially different from its predecessors.

If the league needs "investors", it's likely game/set/mat.ch.

Sponsors may be more hesitant to sign up this time around as well. I'm not sure all the details of the bankruptcy, but if advertisers are still waiting on monies to be refunded that may sway them against reinvesting again. They don't need a huge TV deal, but If they could find a way to net $15-20 million in rights fees they'd be off to a good start

Of course Tank. My point is no network is going to be the defacto - investor/risk-taker for a new Alt-FB league. Many corpse examples tried that. No one is trying to make someone else rich.

That's why McMahon's effort at XFL 2.0 was likely going to be a success - he was taking the risk. And the league was working. After 2/3 years the TV/Stream Nets would then be able to see that paying a league for airtime wasn't going to be waste of money.

That's not true from what we can deduce based on DG etc - they don't want to invest THEIR money.

Again, they're not "investors" or "de facto investors"; they're customers.
