I liked the concept image better. It's almost as if someone has a nice idea, then they hand it off to a clipart designer to get polished. Nothing against clipart or the people that make it, but to take that original concept and make it a first-year graphic design homework assignment is disappointing.

I agree, I liked the original idea better but once I started viewing this logo as a patch that a pilot might wear, I've come around to this logo. That's the part that differentiates it from the original concept. The "sword" part still takes some getting used to, but it's growing on me overall.
