Can someone explain to me why everyone is so high on the Vipers in this league?

It comes down to the coaching staff. Marc Trestman has two Grey Cups. Jerry Glanville has extensive NFL and CFL experience. They've shown themselves willing to sign talented players with a higher risk than other teams.

Like DC and Houston to cover for sure. May hold off on Dallas before we find out about Landry Jones.

I am curious to see these totals. I think that is where books will have the hardest time, especially early in the season.

Kinda hard to gauge week 1 odds. Renegades at -10 seems a bit steep. I'll try to keep the post updated. Small change to the championship odds, St. Louis has drifted to +825 from +800.

So the NY team is an underdog at home, I've seen this movie before

Maybe it is this awful stadium?

This is the first time I’ve ever bet on sports (excluding fantasy football). I’m only doing so to to make it more interesting, though it’s extremely small amounts.

I put $10 on Houston -6
I got $5 on DC -7.5
I got $5 on NY +2.5

I’m waiting to see if Landry is gonna start or not to place a bet on Dallas vs St Louis.

Who is everyone else going with?

I'm not a gambler.

Can anyone give or provide a crash course for how this all works?

So for point spreads, looking at the Renegades game, the point spread is 9. Dallas would have to win by 9+ to cover the spread. If they win by less than that then the Battlehawks would cover and win the bet. If that makes sense.

For the championship odds. The Renegades are +340. If you bet $100 on the Renegades to win the championship, the payout would be $340.

Do you actually know a "bookie" who takes $5 wagers
or are these just some bets that you made with your buddy ???

I'm not even sure you can get a $5 beer at Applebee's anymore
;)
