The UFL, once they figured out M Huygue was abysmal, had lowered their operating cost to the point where Jim Fassell stated that the 8 game 2012 (or was in 2011?) season was going to cost them about $7mm to operate a team (LV) for the season. It was a shame the ownership caught on too late. The UFL played like 50 games over 4 years so the $6-7mm a game sounds too high, AAF was spending $10mm a week on 4 games.johnnyangryfuzzball wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 4:45 pmThat is a fair point. The XFL had a lot of haves and have-nots: cities like San Francisco and Vegas were able to maintain or even build upon their ticket sales during the season, while Chicago, LA and Birmingham fell apart. Plus, as others have noted, there will be walk-ups.MikeMitchell wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 1:59 pm Second, in the original XFL. Las Vegas, New York and San Francisco had modest at best ticket sales before the season started. SF ended up averaging 33k per game. NY 28k.
I disagree. At 20k, the league will lose lots of money. Now, I know the XFL isn't paying quite as much as the UFL was in 2010, but the UFL was losing $6-7 million a game even in Omaha and Sacramento where they were getting 20-24k a game.MikeMitchell wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 1:59 pmIt’s a success if the league averages 20k league wise. If you are expecting better. That’s on you and not a realistic expectation.
25k is, IMO, the minimum they'll need to even come close to breaking even. Yes, it's a tall order, but they chose their markets knowing that. Now, factoring in places like LA and DC where that won't be possible, the overall average might come short of that, but most of the teams need to draw substantially better than 20k to make this enterprise worth it.

The UFL did extend Josh McCown's football career by a decade to the point where his last NFL game was a few weeks ago in the Wildcard round. There are reports he may return in 2020.

I liked the UFL too. I love football period. I have been married to this concept since I was a kid.4th&long wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:51 pmI called it 50 games! I liked that league!MikeMitchell wrote: ↑Fri Jan 24, 2020 5:47 pm UFL attendance figures.

My first football team was The New Jersey Generals. My favorite all time player was Herschel Walker.
The UFL had so much promise. It was poorly timed and conceived from jump street. Lack of exposure killed them.
Oliver Luck, once he was hired met with people from the UFL and other leagues for advice and consultation. Eric Galko used to work in the UFL.

That's where going into the top tv markets helps..... If you get ratings.....and if the tv partners can make their production investments back.....maybe the XFL is rewarded with a paying contract next time around.

I wouldn't call it rewarded... how about Earned? But yes the BIG TV markets are clearly there to maximize TV audience.
I'm hoping XFL gets a new or revised deal prior to yr 3.

Las Vegas hasn't done well in alternative football, but now that it's an NFL city, it will finally support a football team.

The rep of Vegas might actually help this time around, esp loading up Allegiant Stadium with events (no UNLV football ain't cutting it), like the Pac 12 title game--and maybe followed by the P12 tournament, the Las Vegas Bowl, and potentially the NBA ASG, NCAA regionals/Final Four (latter would have to wait til at least '27), and maybe Vince himself gets in on the action with a future Wrestlemania.
