Piggy backing on the NFL Draft and sort of positioning it as a the bookend on a pro football festival is an interesting idea. It could also be marketed to locals as the final event ever in Sam Boyd, as the new Raiders/UNLV stadium is supposed to open in July 2020. That could work.
The Spring Football Classic in Las Vegas. Sam Boyd’s swan song. Sounds like a good promotional idea.

Sam Boyd Stadium’s capacity is 36,000. Not an unreasonable venue to try and fill. Despite the lack of success with recent football events like the AAF, UFL and others. I think 20 plus K or more is doable. Ideally you get XFL fans to make the trip. You could get some walk up business from all the football festivities that weekend.

If I am not mistaken. The AAF in announcing their original championship site of Las Vegas announced it as a 2 year deal. So they probably would have been in position to capitalize on piggy backing the NFL draft in 2020.

The NFL draft in Tennessee earlier this year drew over 600,000 fans. Las Vegas could match or better that figure next year. The NFL draft is supposed to take place on the Vegas strip. That’s not too far from Sam Boyd.

I am for the team with the best record hosting the game but as far as neutral sites go. Vegas might be the way to go. It’s excellent timing and placement.

Right, I don't think anyone's advocating for Vegas as a full time XFL market. But one championship game on NFL Draft weekend seems feasible.

Alpha Bowl is a good idea - it has classical Greek roots the XFL can use to add to its brand, and helps orient towards the College Football fanbase that is a big target here. "X" is the name is pointless, as it is redundant to the league name. It would be like calling the NFL championship game the "NFL Bowl." Alpha is first - most people know that, the rest will learn. The Super Bowl has taught more Americans Roman Numerals than schools did in the 21st century.

Further, it has a bit of a "placeholder" feel, but in the best possible way. It's THE FIRST BOWL. If you get traction, you can rename it. It took three years to become the "Super Bowl" after being the football championship.

The McMahon Trophy is a terrific suggestion. This league exists because of McMahon and he absolutely can name it after himself if he wants to. He's also a good sport and I can see him treating it like a placeholder as well, saying that "when a legend emerges, we'll know what to call it."

These all share the same concept - that you are acknowledging your league is new and laying groundwork to build upon instead of trying to claim a false legacy. The key to survival is for the XFL brand experience to feel fresh, yet classic. The most important thing is that it's original and has an identity. That identity needs to be light brushstrokes, not a forced, heavy-handed attitude like the original XFL. That was the failure - it simply did not feel legitimate. This is the sort of thing that will make or break the league, bank on it.

Good post soup.

Besides sounding cool and symbolizing being first. Alpha also signifies first in the order of importance like the alpha in the group or how the alpha star in a constellation is the brightest or main star. The fact that it ties in to the parent company of the XFL is a bonus.
