Montreal ownership - Stern stepping down and more

Post by 4th&long »

Not a good sign for the team...

https://3downnation.com/2022/08/29/mont ... governors/

>> In his letter, Stern described his decision to step away from the team as “reluctant” but “firm.” He explained that the plans he and his father-in-law had for the team were “effectively shelved” following his death and that decisions related to team financing and operations rest with his estate.

Spiegel owned a 75 percent stake in the Alouettes, while Stern owned the remaining 25 percent. Stern indicated via his letter that his 25 percent ownership of the team will remain. <<

Stern was a lackey bought onboard by MLSE to get some away with the XFL partnership talks. With Stern stepping down and the estate looking to see this doesn't look good for football in Montreal. We know the Argos are hanging by a thread and now they they saw how easy it is for their eastern pals to throw in the towel, I give the Argos to 2024 at the latest before they either fold or turn the keys over to the league and get out of Dodge

TSN won't allow the Argos to fold or turn over the keys to the league and get out Dodge. The Alouettes will find local Quebec ownership in Eric Lapointe or Guzzo

This is the same guy that was constantly tweeting about the team? What an absolute fraud.

Maybe TSN won't let the Argos fold, but they may restructure the TV contract especially if ratings continue to fall under 500k and the younger demo doesn't tune in. Laponte may still be interested, but at a far lesser asking price now after the Stern debacle. Maybe a $500k franchise fee and the league covers all debts before Laponte even contemplates it.

Yep that's him. He reminded me a lot of those cringe indoor/arena football owners. Tough guy on the internet, but lacking in business acumen and fund$. He should have spent more time learning how to run a pro football team instead of tweeting The Rock and Prime Minister Trudaeu

If he had kept quiet like Amar Doman did, he would be the owner right now. Doman kept quiet and now owns the BC Lions.

A new TSN deal won't take place in another few years. There would be no restructuring once the CFL gets to to ten teams.

It would the Spiegel Estate that would do the sale of the Alouettes, not the league. Very much like the Bronco sale from the Bowlen Estate to the Walmart heirs and the future sale of the Seahawks to a potential buyer.

Lapointe won't be at an advantage if he brings in multiple investors. Ambrosie wants private ownership with deep pockets. That is why Lapointe wasn't chosen as the owner, he also kept negotiating in the Media. Professional league frown on that tactic

A sale of the Alouettes within six months and this crisis is averted.

Pro football is expensive. Why do you think the Rock and FOX want investors/owners

Do you think after how long it took to get the Alouettes sold the last time, and now the owner they scrambled to find is dead and out of the picture, it's going to be sold again in six months?

I don't think there's any owner willing to take on this project. The only way I could see it is if RedBird swoops in and reopens the negotiations with the XFL, which is bound to make more than a few names uncomfortable.

Or Jim Speros saves the day again, lol

The XFL talks with the CFL is dead. They are now competitors for views and talent

TSN's Dave Naylor says Jeffery Lenkov is still interested in buying the Alouettes. The Als will be sold after the Grey Cup.

Is Speros still alive LOL!
