USFL Week 7 predictions:

Post by 4th&long »

USFL Week 7 predictions:

Sat  5/27/2023     4:00 PM    FOX                    Birmingham Stallions at New Orleans Breakers Birmingham,
- 715k, 49 pts, NOLA in a rebound surprise (of course McGough could make that a bad choice)

Sat  5/27/2023     9:00 PM    FS1                      Philadelphia Stars at Pittsburgh Maulers                          Canton
- 185k, 41 pts, Philly in a close one (though teams that get shut out seem to rebound, Philly is on a roll)

Sun  5/28/2023    2:30 PM    USA, Peacock     Houston Gamblers at Memphis Showboats                        Memphis
- 225k, 43 pts, Memphis D rises to occasion along with Cole K just enough to slow red hot Houston

Sun  5/28/2023    5:30 PM     FS1                      Michigan Panthers at New Jersey Generals                       Canton
- 275k, 42 pts, Mich Off improving but NJ Offense ready to break out

Saturday Day: Looks like a beautiful Saturday across much of the country including USFL cities.

Saturday Night: Well the Miami Heat failed once again to put away the Celts after a 3-0 game lead and now will be playing Saturday night (8:30pm - TNT) against the FS1-Philly game. Was hoping that game had little competition. That's going to be a big game. And on top of that the NHL Western finals are going to game 5 (8pm Sat - ABC) as Vegas fails to sweep series. It had looked like both these series would be possibly over but not happening. Fox also has MLB at 7:15pm.

Sunday Day: Looks like another beautiful day across much of the country including USFL cities. NJ Mich maybe catches 300k, not much other sports on other than Indy 500 till 6pm. Things free up at 6pm before SNB on ESPN at 7pm, Phils and Braves.

Game of the week to start things off. I think 800k is doable. For score, I think it will be tighter than you predict. Maybe 38-42. Such as a 21-17 or 24-17 type score, not sure who wins.

9pm on FS1. This game will be lucky to get 185k. Especially if it goes one-sided earlier people who would care about this game in PA and eastern Ohio will tune out and call it a night. I'll be generous at 160k. For points, PIT defense should hold well, but PHI offense will score points. But mostly field goals. Predict 16-6, Philly.

250k, Memphis 24-18, 42 points.

300k, Michigan pulls it off, 24-14, ish. 38 points total.

FS1 game on Saturday at 9pm is just wrong. Michigan will supply the viewers for the Sunday FS1 game. The lone network game will do well, very well maybe even.

Hopefully you're right about the Saturday day game with the weather and all. As far as Saturday night... Its tough enough already w/o NBA conf finals and NHL conf finals (both could have been over yesterday) and of course the late start. Ironically they did the same last year (sans the NBA competition) 9pm on FS1 and got 267k (Breakers/Mich).

It wasn't expected to be a good week, but very few positives in this bunch. An average of 347k per game this weekend.

Right on the money for my predictions, almost perfect.

PREDICTIONS/ACTUALS:
USFL Week 7 predictions:

Sat 5/27/2023 4:00 PM FOX Birmingham Stallions at New Orleans Breakers Birmingham,
- 715k, 49 pts, NOLA in a rebound surprise (of course McGough could make that a bad choice)
ACTUAL 703k - good weather and small markets no surprise

Sat 5/27/2023 9:00 PM FS1 Philadelphia Stars at Pittsburgh Maulers Canton
- 185k, 41 pts, Philly in a close one (though teams that get shut out seem to rebound, Philly is on a roll)
ACTUAL 161k - once NBA Miami let Celts get to game 5 this was going to be DOA, and NHL too

Sun 5/28/2023 2:30 PM USA, Peacock Houston Gamblers at Memphis Showboats Memphis
- 225k, 43 pts, Memphis D rises to occasion along with Cole K just enough to slow red hot Houston
ACTUAL 251k - a little over, not bad in a close game that picked up late

Sun 5/28/2023 5:30 PM FS1 Michigan Panthers at New Jersey Generals Canton
- 275k, 42 pts, Mich Off improving but NJ Offense ready to break out
ACTUAL 274k - BINGO

REASONS BELOW STOOD as Predicted:
Saturday Day: Looks like a beautiful Saturday across much of the country including USFL cities.

Saturday Night: Well the Miami Heat failed once again to put away the Celts after a 3-0 game lead and now will be playing Saturday night (8:30pm - TNT) against the FS1-Philly game. Was hoping that game had little competition. That's going to be a big game. And on top of that the NHL Western finals are going to game 5 (8pm Sat - ABC) as Vegas fails to sweep series. SUMMARY:
Beautiful holiday weekend - and NBA (8.7mm) / NHL (2.0mm) / MLB (1.8mm) cut into Saturday night, no surprises but really wanted to see Saturday night sans NBA/NHL competition.
Week Avg: 347k (prediction 350);
2022 was 3 games only with 2 cable- Avg 442k but broadcast did 830k, cable 228k & 267k - not sure about weather and no NBA in 2022.

USFL YTD Avg: 609k; XFL YTD Avg: 609k - yep its uncanny
XFL will take lead next week and likely balance out in week 9.

705K, 24-20. Surprised the Fox game didn't bring in more. It was close, too. Score was pretty accurate. Thought it was 4-7 point margin.
Sat  5/27/2023     9:00 PM    FS1                      Philadelphia Stars at Pittsburgh Maulers                          Canton

Almost nailed this, at 161k. Way off on total points. Philly's special teams let Pit make this a game and in a runaway contest, Philly was late getting their game situated. But finally pulled away and got another field goal to force Maulers into a TD to tie/win situation.

Sun  5/28/2023    2:30 PM    USA, Peacock     Houston Gamblers at Memphis Showboats                        Memphis

250k, Memphis 24-18, 42 points.
251k, Memphis 23-20. 43 points. Can't get much better than that.
Sun  5/28/2023    5:30 PM     FS1                      Michigan Panthers at New Jersey Generals                       Canton

300k, Michigan pulls it off, 24-14, ish. 38 points total.
274k. Michigan wins 25-22. A tad optimistic for this one. Got the winner, but Panthers gave up too many points.

Still another correct pick. I was 3-0 in the games I picked a winner. I was 'lean Birmingham' but not comfortable enough to make the call.
