Closest I can think of Dan LeFevour asking out of his contract to go to MLFB (drafted as a franchise player) in 2016 after he had dislocated his shoulder in Montreal's opener, but he wasn't the starter going into that season anyway (and that worked out well.................)

Prukop is a 3rd down/short yardage qb also going to the USFL, not a starter by any means but there’s not many cfl qbs that seem to leave if they’re getting some playing time in the cfl. For example xfl tried getting Cornelius this off-season and he chose to stay in Canada

It's also an interesting coincidence that he made this decision after the USFL parted ways with Brian Woods.

Didn't Bethel-Thompson and Woods have a rift at some point regarding a contract with The Spring League ??
