Re: Draft details
That's low key awesome. Love that the teams are operating independently and care enough to make their teams better that they're violating rules.

Re: Draft details
So it’s not a regional draft but teams are encouraged to look towards players from their teams city

Re: Draft details
So Pocket Aces on Reddit said this about the draft:
And then some else said it contradicts "drafting for player rights" but Pocket Aces said this:
https://en.reddit.com/r/USFL/comments/1 ... ate_draft/Alright SO there is a lot to unpack here! No, the teams will not be drafting players like CJ Stroud and Bryce Young, they also really cant. They were given over 3000+ names for the draft pool as it was all 2023 NFL draft eligible players, but they have to reach out to and talk to the player prior to drafting them. They will be targetting players they have connections to through coaching and through coaches on the staff and that they know. Probably lesser known guys will be drafted. Also, if a player hasn't talked to a coach yet, thats a good sign they arent going to be drafted
And then some else said it contradicts "drafting for player rights" but Pocket Aces said this:
Oh thats definitely still what it is, there is a good possibility not one of these players comes to training camp at all even the very end. There is a possibility that not a single one of these players ever even joins the USFL. They are drafting for player's right in the chance the player decides to join the USFL. They also still do have to contact them before so the player knows, but that doesn't mean the player wants to be in the USFL

Re: Draft details
Looks like drafting for mid season signings and post season signings. Its forward thinking. Once the NFL draft is over and UDFA get signed... anyone left over and drafted would be eligible. School year ends in May so Like many last year expect mid yr signing and signings this fall.

Re: Draft details
Ya I think that’s a good way to put it. It’s kinda setting up free agency in future seasons and then maybe getting a few players this season, there’s been some small school guys posting they hope to get picked so we could see a few go straight to USFL4th&long wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 10:03 pm Looks like drafting for mid season signings and post season signings. The draft will be fun.
It is a clever idea by the league.

Yeah - Jim Popp pretty much confirms it:herns wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 10:59 pmYa I think that’s a good way to put it. >> Popp: I do think each team will have a very unique path that they take. Some guys, just talking to them, are looking to get guys they can bring in immediately. And then there are other teams where it’s really about the future because they got a lot of their team back. And they would rather get the rights of players and maybe have them a year from now, even if it’s for half a season. This is what makes this draft fun, because we really don’t know which direction each team is going in. <<
