Guess this isn't a new thing, Edmonton did it back in September 2016:

But it is sort of :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:

I'm assuming it's the same deal as if you did one in the NFL (they do exist, Benson Mayowa made the Seahawks off a regional tryout/combine and ended up carving out a nine-year career), just shifting timeframes probably cause of CA winters.
I just think it's weird to think that the Rough Riders are doing tryout camps in the middle of their season. Also, it doesn't mean that the CFL and XFL are competing for talent, because it only involves one CFL team, not all 9.
They are being smart, the CFL, USFL and XFL are all competing for the same players.
The XFL and USFL can get players from the indoor leagues.

The CFL released it negotiation list of 10 US College/NFL PR players. The Ottawa RedBlacks has listed PJ Walker on it's list. The BC Lions stocked up on all QBs, even though they have Nathan Rourke

PJ Walker is not on an NFL Practice Roster. He is on the active roster as the backup in Carolina since Sam Darnold is on IR. Now that could easily change once Darnold comes back since they also have Jacob Eason on the Practice Squad, but as of right now, there's a 0% chance he ends up in the CFL.

Darnold is coming back, he's former first rounder, He's going to get a lot of chances because of that.

Walker might go where the money is once his NFL PR opportunities are exhausted. The CFL still pays more than the XFL and USFL with a housing allowance. The XFL and USFL hubs could deter him signing with either alt league.

Look at Tyler Cornelious, he signed up for two years with the Edmonton Elks. he's now a starter and has improved since playing in the XFL

Right now, Walker is on the Carolina Panthers, and unless otherwise, that's where he is. This is a non topic as long as he's with the Panthers.

Also not every player on those negotiation lists will ever play in the CFL.

The CFL should conduct this Negotiation lists as a TV event to create a buzz about the CFL in the offseason like when it conducts the Draft and free Agents

A lot of these players may not want to play in the CFL, so it should not be a TV event. What's the point when a lot of those players want to give the NFL a shot when their time comes?

Well, some of these guys DO want to play in the CFL. Like Jake Maier, Lucky Whitehead who were on CFL's Negotiation list

Most of these guys don't even know that they were on CFL teams Negotiation list, All the more to televise teams choosing on who goes on their lists.

The CFL is accommodating on allowing players to take a shot at the NFL, but they must fulfill their contract with the CFL team once their NFL shot has been exhausted. At least, the CFL provides job security when they come back to the league

What should happen is for players to jump to the NFL with the understanding that if they don't make it, they return to the CFL, but it should not be ironclad if they end up making an NFL roster and having a ton of success in the NFL, so much to the point where they get a second long term NFL contract and never returning to the CFL. To do that (having a player still under a CFL contract even if they have a lot of success in the NFL knowing full well they will never return) is stupid and moronic.
