Week 10 TV - Ratings and Predictions

Post by 4th&long »

Week 10 TV - Ratings and Predictions - nothing on the line...but here we go...

Saturday - USA 12pm NJ/Mich - 310k
Early weather is sunny and clear, maybe more mild in philly, should know more during week, 2 biggest mkt size teams helps but it's a DOA game and may be harder to find on USA

Saturday - Fox 4pm TB/Birm - 725k
with TB now out and Birm winning the south only thing is win bonus, could be real hot in south may help inside viewing

Sunday - USA 12pm MIch/Pitt - 300k
Ironically this may be the best game of the week, 300 may be a stretch but there s/b less competition

Sunday - FS1 8:30pm Houston/NOLA - 200-300k (NBA low / no NBA high)
Figures Houston is on ESPN MLB, and we'll know if NBA is playing by then; but after a win last week Houston looks like they are going to play hard and since Sloter likely doesn't play at all, the alt starter should be looking to impress.

With nothing on the line, will the games be fun to watch, they were last week. Let's see if people tune in.

Thoughts?

With the playoff picture locked in, it's going to be tough for even the diehards to be compelled to watch this stuff.

Correct - Worse its on during the day in last week of spring after schools out and mild beautiful weather in NE.

So the numbers were down and not good, yet not surprising. I would have revised my early predictions down as the weather firmed up but here goes:

Saturday - USA 12pm NJ/Mich - 310k prediction, actual 239k
Nothing to play for game...Early weather is sunny and clear, and actual weather was mild and even better... especially in Philly/NJ/NY

Saturday - Fox 4pm TB/Birm - 725k prediction, actual 649k
Another Nothing to play for game, plus much of country weather again was perfect. Lucky to get this #

Sunday - USA 12pm MIch/Pitt - 300k, , actual 281k
Ironically this may be the best game of the week, 300 may be a stretch but there s/b less competition

Sunday - FS1 8:30pm Houston/NOLA - 200-300k, actual 181k
Another Nothing to play for game, Figures Houston is on ESPN MLB, no NBA but ugly offenses did not help as NOLA rightly benched Sloter and played softer.

With nothing on the line, and perfect mild weather in much of the country viewing was down, not wanted but expected. Playoff w/e could be similar.

Wk Broadcast avg 649k (1 game was lowest of season, fortunately the game was good)
Wk Cable avg 234k (3 games, with 1 lowest yet being the FS1 finale)
YTD Broadcast avg 985k (21 games)
YTD Cable avg 311k (16 games)

USFL broadcast head to head Saturday:
MLS on ABC 3pm 541k LA v Seattle
MLB on FS1 4pm 243k Texas v Detroit
BIG3 on CBS 3pm 441k in Chicago

Also:
PPL on ABC 1pm-Sat 452k
College BB W/S on ESPN 2pm-Sat 886k
WNBA on CBS 2pm-Sun 375k
NWSL on CBS 4pm-Sun 349k
WNBA on ESPN 12pm-Sun 287k

GOLF-NBC nailed Sat and Sunday at 12pm with 3.5mm and 5.3mm

3 more games to go all on Broadcast, concerned about Philly in championship as Phillies on Sunday Night Baseball same time.

My Dec prediction of broadcast is still in play at 1,050k (range of 850-1250k rev in March) if we get strong playoff rating, need to average 1.1mm a game to avg 1mm for the year on broadcast. Weather will be a huge factor for the Philly/NJ Saturday day (3pm) game. And right now weather looks good in Philly/NJ
