Let's move beyond the retirement logistics, and just focus on the premise.

Whenever Brady is finally on the FOX payroll as a game analyst, it would benefit the network to utilize him on a USFL broadcast first.

The ratings for that game would probably be at least 10x their usual number, and it could potentially give the league a huge boost.

Plus it's not that far-fetched of a general idea, since much of the USFL television crew eventually works NFL broadcasts anyway.

It would make sense for Tom to do a season to get comfortable in the booth ala Garrett.

Guys,

Brady is retired. He owns shares of my Raiders now (ugh). Players can't play if they own shares of a team.

It is more likely Brady wants nothing to do with the USFL.

Well we don't know he wants nothing to do with the USFL... nor do we know if he carry through with announcing.

He likely has a very small % of the raiders. 2.5% is likey OVER $100mm

The contract doesn't take effect until Brady calls his first game.

And I am certain that Fox is not going to spend $3 million a week having Brady analyzing no-names and has-beens on a fake Philadelphia team against a fake Houston team playing in an empty stadium in Canton, Ohio in front of 700,000 TV viewers. That's more than both teams' payrolls combined.

They would not pay Brady doing USFL like NFL games, if he does it for a few games or a season, its to get his chops practicing being an analyst in a lower profile environment.

But its a moot point until he does or doesn't.

The only way Tom Brady boosts ratings is if he suits up.

If FOX announced a week ahead of time that Tom Brady would be doing his first game as analyst, Do you really think that people wouldn't tune in?

It could also potentially be the opening topic for all the sports-related talking heads on Monday.

And this has made the difference when? Hell, XFL1.0 had an active governor on one of their announce teams (and CBS had the First Lady of Kentucky on the NFL Today, in her second run, years before that).

Sure when Summerall/Madden went to FOX (and ABC/NBC for Madden after that), but they also front-loaded with games like Cowboys/Steelers and Niners/Chiefs (Joe Montana vs SF for the first and only time). They weren't loading up with Bucs/Falcons and Rams/Saints.

Realistically, any "topic" about Brady would probably be like Kordell Stewart and Doug Flutie on UFL games in 2010--"It's painfully obvious they're the best QBs on the field". Is any short-term hit for the USFL worth that?, you think the XFL's promotion was bad, you could also end up with a situation like when John Lennon and Ronald Reagan (as gov) were on MNF in Dec '74, anyone remember who played?

Oh stop. You just want to argue.
There would be no downside to it for the network or the league, only POTENTIAL upside.
