PFT: USFL articles

Post by 4th&long »

Easier in one thread...

>>The USFL debuts on Saturday night. The two networks televising the games will be embracing a new way of capturing the images.

As explained by Joe Reedy of the Associated Press, the two networks will use drones. Also, two players from each team will have cameras in their helmets.

The World League used helmet cameras more than 30 years ago. These innovations could make the presentation of the game more compelling. They also could prompt the NFL to adopt the measures that work the best.

Fox and NBC will be televising the USFL launch on Saturday night, with both networks televising the game between the New Jersey Generals and the Birmingham Stallions. It’s the first time multiple broadcast networks will televise the same sporting event since CBS and NBC televised the 2007 Week 17 game between the Patriots and Giants.<<

USFL article on PFT gets generally positive comments.

>> Thirty-nine years after the original USFL debuted, the new USFL returned on Saturday night. The Birmingham Stallions won the first of 40 regular-season games with a late touchdown, beating the New Jersey Generals, 28-24 in a game televised by both NBC and Fox. <<

Congrats to MM and USFLNewsHub

PFT linked to your story:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... n-viewers/

>> Delayed by an hour due to weather, the game nevertheless racked up an average audience of 2.153 million. The second game of the game, Stars-Breakers on USA, pulled 771,000 viewers on average.

Saturday night’s NBC-Fox simulcast generated an average audience of three million. <<

PFT: USFL articles - Good & Bad wk 2

Post by 4th&long »

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... -week-two/

>> The USFL expected a dip in TV ratings for Week Two. Dip happened. What it means depends on the lens through which the numbers are viewed.

As reported by the Sports TV Ratings Twitter account, the Saturday Maulers-Stars game on Fox drew an average audience of 1.056 million. Sunday afternoon’s Breakers-Bandits blowout on NBC generated 812,000.

In Week One, the Fox and NBC games attracted audiences of 3 million and 2.153 million, respectively.

Those aren’t great numbers for three-letter broadcast TV. That said, and as noted by Sports TV Ratings, NBC’s audience for spring football was larger than its Premier League number or, more importantly for the network that previously televised pro hockey, the USFL on both NBC and Fox outdrew the NHL on ABC. <<

Most comments are positive for the leagues play and in general. That's a big plus.

Now if Florio could play good cop more it would be better for NBC and the USFL.

He's a journalist (well, cybergossip), not a shill.

Not every reporter is like Ben "AAF Shill" Kercheval was for CBS.

Ditch the first two letters and throw an I in there, that's the extent of his "journalism". He's a slip-and-fall-turned-activist lawyer (though I don't know who would actually have him) pretending to be one, which one is which is up for debate. His latest piece attacks the NFL for massaging the facts and their interpretation to fit the preferred outcome in any/every given case, which is completely contrary to what he does: massaging the facts and their interpretation to fit the preferred outcome in any/every given case.

But he is a shill for one thing: him--especially his book, which is on track to be at Dollar Trees everywhere this time next year. Hell I just saw James Comey's memoir there, it should fit right in.

PFT: USFL Wk4 Ratings up 12%

Post by 4th&long »

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... week-four/

>> The USFL is holding its own.

Via Fox executive V.P. Michael Mulvihill, the Week Four USFL games on Fox and NBC experienced 12-percent growth over the Week Three games televised by broadcast TV.

The average audiences on three-letter, over-the-air networks continue to land in the range of high six figures and low seven figures. That’s good enough to get the USFL to 2023.

That’s when it will get very interesting, with the third iteration of the XFL (to undoubtedly be televised by ABC and ESPN, which has completely ignored the existence of the USFL) entering the scene and competing with the reconstituted (sort of) USFL. <<

Re: PFT: USFL articles - Roster increase

Post by 4th&long »

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... s-by-five/

>> USFL executive V.P. of football operations Daryl Johnston has announced that game-day rosters will expand from 38 to 40, and that total rosters will expand from 45 to 50.

“Week Five games were the most well-played and most competitive we’ve had all season,” Johnston said in a press release. “Our current 38-man game day rosters have produced outstanding football for our fans. There were more players with draftable grades in the 2022 draft pool than any draft in history, so we think now is the perfect time to expand our team rosters by five additional players while increasing our game day rosters to 40 players. This move will also help set up playoff runs as our eight teams compete for the four postseason spots on June 25.”

There’s another reason for doing this. With the USFL requiring players to sign contracts that give the USFL an option to keep the players in 2023, the USFL will be tying up another 40 total players who otherwise won’t be eligible for the XFL. <<
