The nuclear option is Robert Griffin III, who played for Pep with the Browns and worked out with him back when he was trying to make it back to the NFL.

Griffin seems to have had a commendable season as the Ravens third quarterback; most seem to expect him to return as QB2 in 2019. But he's currently a free agent, so until he signs, I think he has to be a consideration.

The impetus for the thread:
UCLA’s Wilton Speight, who started at Michigan before his decision to graduate transfer, will be back in Ann Arbor for Pro Day. ... Former players are often welcome back for Pro Day activities when they leave a school on good terms. It makes sense for Speight to be back in the spotlight since no other Michigan quarterback has eyes on the pros after Patterson decided to return to school for 2019. Getting Speight on campus helps with his exposure (don’t forget that new Washington XFL coach Pep Hamilton coached Speight at Michigan in 2017).

If you want to not get excited about Speight, I recommend his Week 1 highlights against Cincy:

Griffin is off the board, having signed a two-year deal with the Ravens.

That sucks. I've thought RG3 to XFL was going to happen for a while now. I guess it wasn't realistic, but it's unfortunate.

It would have been absolutely bonkers if he had landed in DC. But everything I've heard was positive from his time with the Ravens, he played well in spot duty, and he seems like a natural backup to Jackson. I'm not surprised.

With the caveat that picking the quarterback based on his last name would be stupid, here's an impressive Brett Rypien highlight from my Twitter feed:

Brett Rypien lands with Denver. With Flacco and Lock in the mix, seems like there's a chance he doesn't make the final roster.

Wilton Speight will sign with San Francisco. With Garrapolo, Mullens, and Beathard, he seems like a longshot to make the roster.
