LAS VEGAS, Nev. (January 17, 2000) – The subject was the weather Wednesday in the San Francisco Demons’ XFL training camp here. The “hawk” was dominating the action for the second straight day.

While San Francisco took the field in temperatures that dipped into the 20s when the wind chill was added, the Demons were taking steps to shore up a very prickly area on the roster.

The Demons have been woefully short on receivers as the training camp churns to the end of its third week and Coach Jim Skipper said reinforcements were on the way.

Veteran NFL pass-catchers Floyd Turner and J.T. Thomas and longtime CFL receiver Jimmy Cunningham will be joining the Demons for either Thursday or Friday drills.

The summoning of additional players was made necessary by injuries to current squad members Mike Adams (knee), Darran Hall (hip) and Lee DeRamus (hamstring).

Turner played nine years with New Orleans, Indianapolis and Baltimore and has 281 receptions to his credit. He caught 64 passes with the Saints in 1991 and recorded 52 receptions with the Colts in 1994. He played in 16 games with Baltimore in 1998 and finished with 32 catches in his last career action.

Thomas played four season with the St. Louis Rams through the 1998 campaign, owning 34 career receptions. He also has returned 71 kickoffs in his career with the Rams.

Cunningham hauled in 54 passes for Grey Cup champion British Columbia this season to up his career total to 100 catches in six CFL seasons, including his first two (1995-96) in Toronto.

San Francisco practices twice Thursday and in the morning Friday before taking part in a closed controlled scrimmage against Memphis Saturday.

The Demons open the 2001 season against the Los Angeles Xtreme Sunday, February 4, at Pacific Bell Park, at 1:00 p.m. Season and individual-game tickets are available by calling 1-888-4XFLTIX or at www.sfdemons.com or www.tickets.com on the internet or in person at Pacific Bell Park or Giants’ Dugout stores.
