XFL Wildcat Giorgio Tavecchio signs with Titans

Tavecchio is one of the best possible options for an NFL team right now.

Giorgio Tavecchio

Giorgio Tavecchio kicks off for the LA Wildcats.

Former XFL Los Angeles Wildcats kicker Giorgio Tavecchio is expected to sign with the Tennessee Titans practice squad.

This move was made corresponding to the struggling veteran Stephen Gostkowski not getting it done when they need it. The veteran Gostkowski is just 11 for 18 on field-goal attempts. That goes along with his two extra-point shanks.

Tavecchio has a bit of NFL experience under his belt. The Italian born kicker has been with the Oakland Raiders and Atlanta Falcons for regular-season action, as well as the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions in camp.

Tavecchio’s stats show a very successful tale. The lefty is 21 for 26 on field goals, including a long of 56 yards. The 56-yard kick came replacing another veteran Matt Bryant. Tavecchio is no rookie when it comes to kicking but also, no rookie to replacing successful veteran kickers, in Oakland he replaced Sebastien Janikowski.

The Tale of Tavecchio

All through his career, he has been constant, that is one word to describe him. Take it back to his college days as a California Golden Bear, he made 112 of 120 extra points, including two seasons of never missing one. He was 48 for 64 (75%) on field goals.

During his starting time as a Raider, Tavecchio played his first game looking like a veteran making all four of his field goals, including a 52-yard bomb. He would earn the game ball for that game.

Tavecchio would also be the only NFL kicker in history to make two 50 plus yard field goals in his first career game. His honored performance in Week 1 earned him the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

He would go on to start every game in 2017 for the Raiders. Tavecchio finished the 2017 season hitting 33-of-34 of his extra-point attempts converted to go along with a showing of 16-of-21 on field-goal attempts.

Next season as a Falcon he would smack his 56-yard field goal. For this, he would earn NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.

Tavecchio as a Titan

He is one of the best possible options for an NFL team right now, Tavecchio can come in clutch any time his number is called.  To stay ready he has been training with another former Los Angeles Wildcat kicker Nick Novak.

Look for Giorgio Tavecchio to make his name known in Tennessee.

Moose Gibson has been involved with football long as he can remember, but no league does he love as much as the XFL. He is a huge fan of the Seattle Dragons, his favorite players are Brock Miller and Brandon Silvers. You can follow him on Twitter @midnightxmoose.
