XFL owner Dwayne Johnson teases he may put on the pads
“No doubt, I’ll get my ass whupped. But at least I’m goin’ out on my shield, XFL style,” Johnson joked.
Sporting an XFL belt, and “Sweatin’ in paradise,” XFL owner The Rock teased on Instagram that he may want to put on the pads and be the first football league owner to actually suit up and play in the game.
Johnson also repeated his desire to be able to provide opportunities for players to get on the field and have a good career playing football.
“XFL is much more than a big business acquisition – it represents an idea,” The Rock said. “The idea of opportunity. As an owner of the XFL, that’s my priority – create opportunities for players to live out their dreams, feed their families and ball out – XFL style.”
Both Dwayne Johnson and co-owner Dany Garcia have made it known how they are motivated to help players and others get back to work through restarting the XFL.
“What a wild, unpredictable journey life can be, and I got nothing but excitement and gratitude to create these opportunities for other players and people,” Johnson added.
Through this, and other recent teases, we understand that a plan to restart the XFL is coming together. Fans, players, coaches and others await more substantial details as to when they can expect the league to resume operations.
As for Johnson’s thought of returning to the football field himself, he conceded that he probably wouldn’t impress anyone.
“No doubt, I’ll get my ass whupped. But at least I’m goin’ out on my shield, XFL style,” Johnson joked.
