This was a matchup of two teams whose seasons were going in opposite directions, with Orlando on a two-game losing streak and Arlington coming off a loss, but with all the confidence of a winning squad. The Renegades opted to start quarterback Kyle Sloter in this game, and they have added running back Kenneth Farrow to their roster. Last week, quarterback Paxton Lynch only completed nine of 19 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown as Orlando could not generate a consistent offensive effort. The Guardians hope he does better in this game.
Paxton Lynch led off the Guardians drive by focusing on the run. Lynch even had a keeper for a first down. Then, a pass interference call gave the Guardians another first down, and then a 13-yard pass from Lynch to Carter moved the chains again. On third down, Lynch rushed 12-yards to the Arlington 17. The Guardians settled for a 35-yard Borregales field goal to open the scoring 3-0.
Kyle Sloter took over as Arlington’s quarterback and was able to get one first down. However, the Renegades were forced to punt.
A Lynch pass to Martin was fumbled and recovered by Arlington’s Payne on the Orlando 16-yard line. Kyle Sloter passed to Cannella for a short gain, and then handed to Kenneth Farrow for a 7-yard gain and a first down. With first and goal, the Renegades attempted to run the ball in for a touchdown but failed. A third down pass attempt to Sal Cannella was incomplete. They settled for a 21-yard Taylor Russolino field goal to tie the game 3-3.
Paxton Lynch and the Guardians went three and out and were forced to punt.
At the end of the first quarter the score was tied 3-3.
Kyle Sloter took over on the Arlington 45-yard line and drove the ball. He was able to get one first down, and then another aided by a Guardians penalty. Sloter moved the ball into the Orlando red-zone but a third down hand-off to Smith was stuffed. Arlington went for it on 4th down and failed, turning the ball over on downs.
The Guardians drove the ball to the Renegades 24 where Martin fumbled the ball on a rush. Arlington’s Coatney recovered the ball and the Renegades took over. Kyle Sloter’s drive stalled on his own 47-yard line and the Renegades were forced to punt.
Lynch connected to Latimer for a 25-yard pass taking the Guardians to their 46-yard line. The Renegades defense turned up the heat and thwarted Lynch’s drive.
At the half the score was tied 3-3.
Arlington took possession in the 3rd quarter. Kyle Sloter made two first downs and then Marquette King punted the ball. The punt went into the end zone and Orlando was given possession on their own 35.
Lynch drove the ball, gaining a first down on a quarterback sneak. A pass to Latimer on the Arlington 43 was good enough to move the chains. Then, Lynch was sacked for a loss at midfield. A second down pass intended for Carter was nearly picked off. The Guardians were forced to punt.
Arlington went three and out and the Guardians took over on their own 27-yard line. Paxton Lynch led off his drive with a 28-yard pass to Harvey-Clemons on the Arlington 45. An 11-yard pass to Thomas moved the ball to the Renegades 34. On a 4th and 1, Lynch kept the ball to get a first down on the Arlington 23. Then, Paxton Lynch connected with Latimer on the Arlington 3-yard line to make it first and goal.
At the end of the third quarter the score remained tied 3-3.
Paxton Lynch rushed for a 3-yard touchdown. The 1-point conversion attempt failed, making the score 9-3 for the Guardians.
Kyle Sloter and the Renegades took over on their own 26-yard line. An Orlando penalty gave Arlington a first down. Sloter continued a long drive that ended with a 17-yard pass to Tyler Vaughns for a touchdown. The 1-point conversion rush by Smith was good, giving Arlington a 10-9 lead.
Paxton Lynch took over on his own 15, and a pass to Latimer gave the Guardians a first down. Then, Lynch was intercepted on a pass to Lenoir, but the officials called the pass incomplete. Dean Blandino reviewed the play and saw the ball had touched the ground. The decision on the field stood. On second down, Lynch was sacked for an 8-yard loss. With 4:49 left on the clock the Guardians punted the ball.
Arlington fielded the ball on their own 11-yard line. Sloter connected with Tyler Vaughns with an 8-yard pass for a first down. Arlington was trying to burn off the remaining time on the clock. At the two-minute warning the Renegades were facing 3rd down and 11.
Arlington could not convert for a first down and Marquette King was called upon to punt the ball.
Orlando took over on their own 25-yard line with 1:39 on the clock. Lynch was complete to Thomas for 5-yards. Then, Lynch was sacked for a 3-yard loss. On third down, Orlando took a 5-yard false start penalty. With 46 seconds remaining, on third and 13, Lynch completed to Lenoir for a 29-yard gain. Unfortunately, Arlington’s Josh Hawkins was injured on the play.
While taking time for the injury, Dean Blandino was able to review the Lenoir catch, and the reception was deemed to be incomplete.
On 4th and 13 Paxton Lynch’s pass to Rambo was incomplete, forcing a turnover on downs.
The Arlington Renegades defeated the Orlando Guardians 10-9.
