XFL Week 3: Pawlawski’s passes devilishly good

Demons 13, Maniax 6

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Mike Pawlawski threw two second-half touchdown passes to Terry Battle as the San Francisco Demons beat the Memphis Maniax 13-6 in the XFL on Saturday night.

Pawlawski, the league’s leading passer, connected with Battle on passes of 9 and 24 yards as San Francisco (2-1) overcame a 6-0 halftime deficit.

The Maniax (1-2) had a chance to tie it, but Jim Druckenmiller’s fourth-down pass was intercepted by Wendell Davis at the San Francisco 11 with less than a minute to play.

Pawlawski, who completed 67.7 percent of his passes in the first two games, was 19-of-37 for 184 yards.

For the second consecutive game, the Memphis offense struggled, failing to reach the end zone and turning the ball over at key times. Memphis has not scored a touchdown since the first half of its opening win over Birmingham.

San Francisco’s first touchdown was set up by Emile Palmer’s interception that gave the Demons the ball at the Memphis 25. The drive was helped by a pass interference call.

Battle’s second score came after a short Memphis punt gave the Demons the ball at the Maniax 41.

Memphis’ Jeff Hall kicked 31- and 36-yard field goals in the first half.
