I can see the XFL burning through Vince's money a lot faster than what they're projecting. I think the money in the bank now gets him through this season...... but going forward..... he'll need investors. I think Mr. Trump should be needing something to do in a year or so.
In the meantime......there's only seven months left of a two year planning cycle and they still don't have a rulebook even? I'm thinking they're not ready and should delay the start till 2021......that slow and methodical enough? After all,. the pain that the AAF inflicted on the spring football concept is still pretty fresh. A strategic one more year delay might be good.
Delaying until 2021 only happens if the league doesn’t have cities and a tv deal by February.

By the way, why do you think that the starting QB for XFL Seattle will be a cast off from the Hawks? The QB could be coming from anywhere - literally! It could be a NFL castoff, or a college QB who went undrafted etc. etc. Heck, I suppose it's even possible it could be a former HS or JC QB (not likely of course) While I hope XFL Seattle has a great starting QB, I'm behind whoever they start.
I posted this on Twitter when Andy Patton had a poll online. I voted for Jake Browning as a possibility. If we are thinking along the lines of regional ties.

To get someone like Gardner Minshew. He would have to be cut and turn down a spot on a practice squad to play in the XFL. In order for him to even remotely consider it. He’d have to offered a tier one contract and be practically guaranteed a starting job.

The usual cost for a league of this size is about $100 million for the first year, if not a little higher. That's what the AAF spent, though the XFL also doesn't have the millstone of having to pay a few million to have their games televised. I think the UFL went through about $50 million in 2010 with exactly half the number of games. So far, Vince has invested somewhere around $372 million in Alpha. That should be more than enough to get through at least two years, if the XFL is the only thing Alpha invests in between now and then.

But really... the XFL gave themselves almost two years to get everything in order specifically to avoid this problem. If they're still delaying and rushing, that's a management failure that won't be solved by punting to next year. They're too far along to delay things now, not with TV having taken a vested interest. If they can't get this thing up and running in 2020, it won't in 2021 or any other year, either.

As for the AAF: they proved there's still a market for football in February and early March. But I think anyone with a sober judgment can look at the AAF and see that the problem wasn't so much that it isn't ever doable but that Charlie Ebersol didn't have the startup funds and stubbornly refused to admit that (or anything negative about the league) despite a multitude of warning signs that his vision simply wasn't going to work. That's not an issue with the XFL, where the money is from a known reliable source and is in the bank.

The rulebook, that's not really a huge deal. We already know the basics of what the XFL rules are going to be; they won't absolutely need that finalized until shortly before they actually start running practices... and we the fans may never actually see the finished product. There are certain things that can (and sometimes have to) be held off until a couple of months before the season starts.

I get that. I remember Luck doing interviews after he was named CEO. In every interview last summer. He said that the league would be announcing their eight cities in the fall. People expected September. Nothing came. Then October. Nothing came. Then November and nothing came. I remember reading on Reddit how the XFL screwed up and that the AAF killed their chances to find 8 locations. How they would be retracting down to 4 teams.

The same thing happened for the TV Deal and Head Coaches. Luck did dozens of interviews during Super Bowl week. He teased the tv deal and coach hires and labeled them as being announcements in the first quarter of the year. Coach hires started in the first quarter but didn’t end until recently. The TV deal came in May.
The thing with the TV deal was that they HAD to have the TV deal by May because that's when the networks set their upfronts. It's an example of the league actually being pressed on a hard deadline. Had they not done it by May, there'd be no TV deal, and they'd've probably had to broker the airtime—a death blow if history is any indication.

They have the capability to adhere to deadlines, they're just procrastinating.

The league is not procrastinating. I can personally verify that.

Disgusting. If The American Fuhrer and leader of the American Reich is involved in this league in any way, I am abandoning the XFL.

Involving Trump would kill the league faster than almost anything. From a business standpoint, he's not reliable, isn't nearly as rich as he says he is, and is impossible to negotiate with. From a PR standpoint, he's arguably the worst President in history, despised by 70% of Americans, and would associate the XFL with racism, sex abuse, child imprisonment, etc. It's just completely ridiculous to consider him legitimately. Investors are important but you need to stay as far away from him as possible. The XFL has already been pegged as the MAGA league because of Vince's thing about requiring standing for the national anthem.

Politics aside, I wouldn't want Trump involved simply because of how he ran the USFL into the ground.

That's part of what I meant from a business standpoint. The USFL could easily still be going today if it hadn't had Trump as an owner.

Here's some fact.....everything being said here is true....though I don't believe we would have a usfl today. I think it would've ended maybe the same way the old ABA, and the WHA ended.......with a limited number of it's more successful franchises taken in. And Trump was never to be one of them.
But Vince and Trump have a personal relationship. FOX very much is pushing for him to appear on the debut of Smackdown....
and may want him there for the XFL as well
......maybe to toss the first coin like it
or not. Mostly just because he's president.....he dominates media. Fake or otherwise.
