This was setup to be a battle of two teams who are trying to keep pace with the South Division leading Houston Roughnecks. Keep in mind this game was held during week five of the ten week XFL season, a midway point, but also a time when teams needed to look toward locking up a playoff spot, a situation where these two teams are in direct competition.

Both teams shared the fact they were coming off week four road losses. San Antonio only managed six points against the surging Seattle Sea Dragons. Meanwhile, Arlington didn’t stand a chance in an electrically fan-charged Dome in St. Louis. First and foremost, both of these teams are looking to get back to a winning way. Which team would get their wish?

Parker Romo kicked off for the Brahmas and the Arlington Renegades took the ball on their own 30-yard line. Arlington quarterback Kyle Sloter handed to De’Veon Smith for a short gain and then passed to Brandon Arconado for a first down. The drive continued, accented by a 28-yard pass to Arconado to put the ball on the San Antonio 18.  On 2nd down, Sloter was sacked by Ranthony Texada. On 3rd down his pass to Winningham was incomplete. The Renegades settled for a 43-yard Taylor Russolino field goal to make the score 3-0 for Arlington.

Reid Sinnett came in at quarterback for San Antonio. Sinnett managed one first down with a 13-yard pass to T.J. Vasher, and then they were forced to punt. Kyle Sloter’s first pass of the next Arlington series was intercepted by the Brahmas Tenny Adewusi and returned to the Arlington 40.

With the turnover by the defense, Reid Sinnett got the ball back. His seven play drive was capped by a T.J. Vasher 6-yard touchdown catch. The 1-point conversion attempt was hindered by a false start penalty, however second attempt at the conversion was good, making the score 7-3 for the Brahmas.

Kyle Sloter took the ball on his own 15 and started a drive of his own. A short Kenneth Farrow run gave the Renegades a first down, and then a 12-yard Farrow run advanced the chains again. At the end of the 1st quarter the Renegades were 3rd and 9 on their own 38.

The score at the end of the 1st quarter was 7-3 for San Antonio.

Sloter connected a 26-yard pass to JaVonta Payton to take the ball to the Brahmas 36. Then, two rushes by Farrow set the ball on the 19 with another first down. The Brahmas defense stiffened, but a 3rd down pass to Sal Cannella managed to move the sticks. On 4th and 2, the Renegades settled for a 25-yard Russolino field goal to make the score 7-6 for San Antonio.

Sinnett took over on the San Antonio 23 and handed the ball to Jacques Patrick for a 7-yard gain. On 2nd down Sinnett ran the ball 10 yards for a first down, then he passed to John Hillman past midfield for another first down. On 3rd and 10, Sinnett was sacked by T.J. Barnes for a 6-yard loss. The Brahmas were forced to punt.

Sloter started on the Arlington 21-yard line. A 10-yard pass to Rannell Hall was good for a first down, but the Brahmas defense would not let the Renegades go much further and they were forced to punt.

San Antonio was now going with Jack Coan at quarterback. Coan could not do much before the two-minute warning. After the break he found himself 3rd and 12 on his own 24-yard line. A 7-yard pass to Fred Brown wasn’t enough, and the Brahmas were forced to punt.

Arlington got the ball on their own 25-yard line. Sloter could not complete a pass and went three and out. With 1:07 remaining in the half the Renegades had to punt it back.

From his own 48-yard line, Coan passed to Kalen Ballage for a 9-yard pickup. Then, a pass to Fred Brown drew a defensive pass interference penalty which gave the Brahmas the ball on the Arlington 35.  On 1st down, Willy Taylor sacked Coan and he fumbled the ball, but Coan recovered his own fumble. Coan continued his drive with an 8-yard pass to Ballage, and then he rushed for 6-yards and a first down on the Arlington 27. On 4th and 2 with 4 seconds remaining Parker Romo kicked a 45-yard field goal.

The score at the half was 10-6 for San Antonio.

Taylor Russolino kicked off for Arlington and Ballage returned the ball 18-yards. An offside penalty added 5-yards for the Brahmas, giving them the ball on their own 30. Quarterback Reid Sinnett was back in for San Antonio. Sinnett engineered one first down, and then a 12-yard pass to Ballage was aided by a hands to the face penalty against Arlington to give Sinnett a first down on the Arlington 36. On 4th and 1 Sinnett handed to Patrick to extend the drive. On 2nd and 10 a Sinnett pass intended for Deon Yelder was intercepted by Joe Powell on the goal line.

Reid Sinnett was injured on the play and was later seen leaving the field. He came back to the sidelines wearing a walking boot, meaning his day was done.

Deep in his own end Kyle Sloter managed to connect a 17-yard pass for LuJuan Winningham on 3rd and 7. De’veon Smith’s second effort gave the Renegades another first down on the 33. Sloter was sacked for a big loss but the Brahmas Luq Barcoo was called for interference and the Renegades were given a first down on their own 44. Another pass interference call against Bonds gave the Renegades another first down on the San Antonio 37. Then, a 21-yard run by Rannell Hall put the ball on the 16-yard line, and a pass to Sal Cannella moved the ball to the 1. On 2nd down, De’veon Smith ran the ball in for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion failed, making the score 12-10 for Arlington.

That was a 14 play 98-yard drive by Kyle Sloter to give the Arlington Renegades the lead.

Jack Coan took over for the Brahmas on their own 33. An 11-yard rush and a 13-yard reception both by Patrick moved the ball to the Arlington 43.

At the end of the third quarter the score was 12-10 for Arlington.

A holding penalty pushed the Brahmas back 10 yards. On third down, officials lost control of the timing of the game, which delayed Coan’s play on 3rd down. When he was able to get started, Coan could not convert for a first down, and the Brahmas were forced to punt.

Sloter took the ball on his own 13. A pass to Sal Cannella moved the first down marker to the Arlington 25. On 3rd and 9, a pass to Tyler Vaughns was deemed incomplete. Arlington head coach Bob Stoops decided to challenge the play for illegal contact on a receiver. The challenge failed. Arlington was forced to punt.

The Brahmas received the punt and Roberson returned the ball. A holding penalty gave Coan the ball on the San Antonio 18. Jack Coan could not complete a pass and San Antonio was forced to punt.

The punt was returned 28 yards by Joe Powell and with 7:21 remaining, Sloter took over on the San Antonio 36. A short rush by Kenneth Farrow left him injured on the sideline. Kyle Sloter rushed the ball 11-yards for a 1st down on the San Antonio 24. On 3rd and 13 Sloter was sacked hard by Jack Koemer for a 12-yard loss, knocking the Renegades out of field goal range.

Marquette King’s punt went into the end zone and was called for a touchback. The Brahmas started on their own 35 with 3:08 remaining. Jack Coan rushed the ball for a 12-yard gain, and then a pass intended for Darece Roberson was intercepted by Shakur Brown on the Arlington 49.

Sloter handed to De’veon Smith twice for a first down. At the two-minute warning Arlington had the ball on the San Antonio 40.

Ahead 12-10, Arlington seemed content to run the ball and kill the clock. With only one timeout remaining San Antonio needed to keep the Renegades from getting a first down. On 3rd and 4 a false start penalty pushed the Renegades back 5 yards. On 3rd and 9, De’veon Smith could only manage 4 yards. Marquette King punted the ball and recovered it himself to pin San Antonio deep.

With 24 seconds remaining, the Brahmas took over on their own 10-yard line. Jack Coan could not complete on two pass attempts, with the second pass being intercepted by the Renegades’ Evans.

The game ended with the fans booing the home team.

Final score: Arlington Renegades 12, San Antonio Brahmas 10.
