Damn I was looking forward to Malachi, Fred Ross, Kasen and Keenan Reynolds going all Lockett/Metcalf/Moore/Brown. Oh well on to the next

And the other guy was a 16-year old rookie in 2009 that went back and played Canadian college ball? That's a new one :?:

Likely a typo that the writer forgot to edit before he press sent.

On one side I get it, Malachi just finished up playing in his second straight league that folded this year, so until the XFL makes it a couple years (despite everything going for them) yeah, this was no doubt a concern for Corey Vereen too. They've done something right to get all the AAF players they did get--including Adrien Robinson (stuck with the hotel tab), and Taiwan Jones (signed with the Express the day before the league folded), but obviously not everyone was sold, and that's understandable.

On the other, Montreal isn't the most stable team right now and I could see them getting contracted (although that hasn't happened in the CFL since the end of US expansion). Wetenhall and Smith saved the team and the Als have had a nice little two-decade run, but that gravy train seems to be over. I mean worst case, he'd be in a dispersal draft but there's only so many spots and who knows what the import/national ratio will look like.

So, net of we'll see what happens.

Montreal exceeded everyone's expectations by going to the playoffs. They are on the right track, they just need to resolve their ownership issues and once they get that stabilized, they should be fine, especially if next year they improve on what they have done this year. It's Toronto and BC that the CFL is worried about.

I'm sure the CFL will pull every string, move every goalpost, whatever they need to do to save Toronto, who's been around nearly as long as American college ball. If that means sacrificing the Als (they've lost Montreal twice before and survived), they'll do it. The Argos transcend the CFL, hell they even got a mention in Zero Hour! (which more or less became Airplane!--and naturally they have a guy named Striker on the team)

Believe me, if they survived the biggest douche owner in sports, Bruce McNall, they'll get through whatever problems they're having with MLSE.

As far as the Leos go, isn't Braley now the longest-running (non-community) owner in the league? Granted I don't know how much longer he's in it for and if he wants to sell, but I haven't heard of any problems.

Montreal is not folding.

TSN co-owns the Argos and they have good TV ratings.

The CFL isn't going to be contracting any time soon.

The problem with MLSE is that they were a last resort owner. Literally NOBODY wanted that money pit. Braley himself had to own both the Argos and Lions for years—something deeply frowned upon in pro sports, and this is TSN's second go-round owning the team, after they were forced to buy it in the wake of the McNall disaster and Candy's death. There are only two reasons the CFL has kept the Argos afloat: they're the second-oldest team in the league, and they're in Canada's largest market. Toronto hasn't cared about the Argos in a long time.

Montreal's kind of a weird case. Wetenhall, with the help of Jim Speros, seemed to have that team back on track up until a couple years ago, and everything just fell apart. Then you have the CFL deciding to get picky with ownership. Lapointe? Not good enough. Starke? Ew, no potheads, kthxbye. Guzzo? Nope, we tried celebrity owners before. (Then he goes public and disses the team as a financial disaster.) But Montreal has folded twice before, and they'll do it again if they have to.

As for BC, Braley's had it up for sale, but unlike Toronto, he's in no rush to wash his hands clean. He thinks he can get a better price for the Lions and he's willing to wait to get it.
