Huh! Supplemental draft day starts with the XFL signing three more QBs.

Josh Johnson, LOS ANGELES WILDCATS:
A veteran QB with 11 years of NFL experience, Johnson has played in 33 games with eight starts and compiled a 55% completion percentage with 1,632 yards and 8 TDs. The Oakland, CA native spent 2019 with the Detroit Lions and 2018 with the Washington Redskins, where he threw for 590 yards and three touchdowns in three starts. An All-American and Walter Payton Award Finalist at the University of San Diego, Johnson was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Taylor Heinicke, ST. LOUIS BATTLEHAWKS:
Heinicke played four years at QB for Old Dominion University (2011-2014), and finished his career ranked third all-time in FBS history in total offense, fourth in FBS with 132 touchdown passes and sixth in passing yards. In 2012, he earned the Walter Payton Award (FCS) and was First-Team All-America. Undrafted in 2015, Heinicke spent time with the Minnesota Vikings (2015-2017), New England Patriots (2017), Houston Texans (2017) and the Carolina Panthers (2018-2019).

Chase Litton, SEATTLE DRAGONS:
Litton finished his college career at Marshall University ranked fifth in school history in career passing yards (8,332), fourth in career passing touchdowns (72), and completions (727). The Florida native is the second QB at Marshall to complete 60% of passes in three consecutive seasons. After his final season (2017) where he set single-season highs in completions (266), passing yards (3,115), and passing touchdowns (25), Litton declared for the NFL Draft and was invited to the NFL Scouting Combine. He spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs (practice squad) in 2018 and the Jacksonville Jaguars (practice squad) in 2019.

This is exactly what I mentioned on the XFL Xtra podcast last week. The league is not done at QB with assignments.

Josh Johnson tried out for the Titans recently. I am not surprised that he is with the league. Luis Perez has been working hard but he’s got some real competition in LA.

No shock with STL adding a quarterback. This was also speculated for quite some time. How Jordan Ta’amu and Brogan Rogack would have someone join them in the BattleHawks QB room Taylor Heinicke also has a real shot to push for playing time.

Chase Litton to Seattle is interesting. That’s a crowded QB room with the Dragons with Silvers, Callahan and Daniels.

Heard the show. Parks and you were in agreement on QB additions. The league just got better by adding competition to these spots. Ta’amu is super talented but a rookie and in truth, I am not a Roback guy. So Heinicke could get the edge. He’s only got 1 career NFL start but he has more experience as a pro than both those players.

Litton is in a tough spot. Silvers and Callahan would be my #1 and #2. Daniels can be a gadget player who can play RB and WR if needed. Even receiver Keenan Reynolds has QB experience. Seattle must have had Litton high on their priority list.

If Josh Johnson is not starting by opening day. He might overtake Luis Perez early in the season. I watched Perez in Birmingham. He was way too inconsistent and was benched for Keith Price. Perez has awesome weapons in Rashad Ross, Nelson Spruce and KD Cannon but if he struggles early. Johnson will take over and not relinquish that job.

The XFL’s payroll is interesting with all these assigned quarterbacks making six figures during the season. The league is certainly not done in this department.

With the exception of Cardale Jones and Landry Jones. I don’t think that anyone’s job is safe. Even a veteran that I really like in Matt McGloin. The Guardians don’t need a quarterback with McGloin and Williams but if there’s someone they like. I wouldn’t put it past New York to address the position again. Why wouldn’t you look to get better and add competition.

I can tell you that Ryan Mallett is back in the draft pool. I am not sure if he is going to be drafted though. I have always pegged him for Tampa because of his connection to Marc Trestman.

So will Josh Johnson play for all 8 XFL teams?

QB Predictions:

Dallas-Landry Jones (Phillip Nelson)
Seattle-Brandon Silvers (Joe Callahan)
LA-Josh Johnson (Luis Perez)
Houston-Connor Cook (Phillip Walker)

DC-Cardale Jones (Tyree Jackson)
NY-Matt McGloin (Marquise Williams)
STL-Jordan Ta'amu (Taylor Heinicke)
TB-Aaron Murray (Taylor Cornelius)

The backups are pretty good. Aaron Murray doesn't have much competition right now IMO.

It seems that the "fan friendly" XFL is buttoned-up and they aren't posting any draft picks. If you want be like me  while you are waiting for some news, read this article about Jeffrey Pollock saying the league will be "Ultra Accessible" https://www.xfl.com/en-US/articles/xfl- ... -interview
